I can't seem to get these guys to drop spores. They are not sporeless, but they just don't eject them very well. I am going to try and swab the next flush. It is weird because the linage I am working with came from AKA, but my tubs and fruits look nothing like his. They look like normal nats. Veils attached to the cap instead of the stem, lite colored caps with a little blueing around the edges. Smaller more like Pans with cube stems about 3-6 inches tall. I will take a picture on the next flush.

Quickly got some very clean looking growth. With a dozen plates, from various sectors, I got a very good feeling here. Thanks again AKA

Those look like regular cubes to me.
God damn I’m glad this place is back. Sock prints are hit or miss for me. Either nothing or super dark.
I finally ran a new one from spore that pinned in 12 days. Sooo much better than 50 lol. It also grew a thick mat so I thought it was gonna be the same old shit. I peeled off all the myc except for a small corner and then a day or two after the corner I left pinned up. Luckily the rest pinned shortly.
New culture

Third or fourth flush of my old culture at over three months from spawn

I smashed all the fluff down with paper towels and punched holes in it with a fork. Looked like leather. Then 3 days later got all fuzzed up again only this time with pins. AKA, when you scraped the fuzz off, did it come back before pinning?

I wish I had a picture. I harvested menial first flush yesterday but have two new decent pins popping up today. I didn’t have any overlay issues just aggressive growth in the plates.

Not very much.
The bottom left corner I didn’t peel off, all the rest just slightly grew back. But now that I know I won’t touch it next time.

The more grows I do I’m realizing genetics are super important with natalensis. I’d recommend just taking a few different types of growth off the spore plate and running them all. My first couple cultures had crazy overlay and wouldn’t really pin but this latest one pinned great on top of the myc.

I just dropped some straight pan-looking myc to grain. It’s the first I’ve found as was clearly different. Not lifting off the plate all ropey and shit. It was a plate pin xfer on T2. Hopefully a real keeper

First time working with nats, loving the growth so far. What section of this beautiful, ropey mess would you transfer from?

If I remember right, a lot of folks here have been selecting for tomentose to potentially minimize overlay... and I don't see any of that in that plate.

Oh really? Haha well shit. I have another plate on PDYA that's more tomentose, I guess I'll try that. My plan is to run two shoeboxes to start so I'll give both a go

I have being wondering the same thing for a long time now , lots of people seem to agree , but then it makes me think would a tementose isolate that'd take much longer to run and fruit being much more potent than rhyzomorpic one?

Not more potent but the tomentose definitely takes longer. My fruits have been maturing after a week from pinning sometimes. I think low down ratios are important to avoiding overlay too

The natal culture I ran for most of the last year took about six weeks to pin and was super rhizo. Although that describes 90% of the natal myc I’ve seen.
Anyway the tomentose one I have now pinned at like 11 days. Haven’t tried them yet to compare strength but the slow rhizo culture put out face melters for sure.
I have a tub going on four months right now. Definitely not ideal lol.

I’m thinking about not mixing the coir in with the grain. Just layer the coir on top, like several inches thick

Might as well give it a go. I have multiple clones going right now, so I'm stoked to see what they'll do. I've never gotten clones past agar, so this is exciting for me
