Winter Time Drinks * 2

Masala Chai Tea is the best stuff ever.  What you need is.

Fresh Ginger
Whole Cardamom
Whole Cloves
Star Anise
Black Pepper Corns
Cinnamon Sticks
Whole Allspice
Nutmeg (fresh ground)
12 Black Tea teabags

Measure the amount of filtered water you need with the pitcher your going to put this in and add an additional bit for drinking right away.  Pour into a crock pot, add the spices and put on high for 8 - 10 hours.  Steep the black tea bags in the crock pot for 15 minutes at the very end.  The smell is intoxicating.

You can serve this hot or cold, sweetened or not.  Any way you serve it it's going to be great.  I do mine with sweetened condensed milk.

Now you can experiment with your taste on the measurement of each ingredient.  I sometimes like to add more peppercorn depending on what I'm eating.  I also like lots of Cardamom and clove in mine.  I'm trying it this time with a bit more ginger than usual.  It's always good however you make it.

While you wait just enjoy some TACOS!

TOdys Forcast said we will be getting 8 inches of snow starting around noon.  I prepared to bunker down for the weekend with some good winter drinks.

Frst one is hot chocolate.  A Midwest winter MUST!

2 cups whole milk
1/8 cup coco powder
1/8 cup sugar
1/4 cup semi sweet chocolate
1 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
splash of vanilla

Pour everything into a saucepan heat on medium low, stirring often till everything is hot hot hot..    Enjoy with some whipped cream and pie.

Spiced Cranapple and Ginger Cider

2 cups quality apple cider
3 cups water
1 cup cranberries
1 apple
1 cinnamon stick
2 star anise
4 cloves
8 allspice berries
2 inch chunk ginger

Peel and slice the ginger, cut some of the cranberries in half and put all into a sauce pan.  Bring to a boil for 3 minutes and reduce heat to low, simmer for 15 - 20 minutes.  Add some honey if you like.

Anyone else live in the frozen midwest?

Favorite winter time drink for me is a smoky scotch with an ice cube or two.

Warm Apple Pie

This one is a real winter treat.  It's hearty, healthy and full of flavor.

1 1/2 cup Whole milk
1/2 tsp. Nutmeg
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1 1/4 Cored apple
2 tbsp. Rolled oats
1/2 tsp. Maple Syrup

Blend all of these ingredients together and heat on low till hot, stirring often.

If your drink gets a little thick from the oats just add some more milk, about a quarter cup should do.

I love Spruce tips tea with honey in the winter. But they need to be collected green in autumn and dried.

Orange Peanut Butter Cup

1/4 cup peanut butter powder
1/4 cup semi sweet chocolate
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
2 -3 cups whole milk
The peel of one orange (just the zesty part)

Pour all of this into a sauce pan and gently heat on low while stirring often.  Once the chocolate is melted and it's hot, remove the orange peel and serve.

4 inches of snow on the way today

Date Milk

1 tsp Turmeric
6 pitted dates
2 star anise
6 all spice berries
dash of fresh grated nutmeg
3 cups milk

Blend together the milk, dates and turmeric and pour into a sauce pan, add the spices and simmer on low for 20 minutes.  Stir VERY often..    Strain this mixture through a sieve and serve hot.  I think that this has been my favorite one so far.

2 green tea bags
3 heavy tbsp honey
2.5 tbsp lemon huice
1/3 cup Crown Royal
1 cinnamon stick

put everything in a sauce pan on medium heat till everything is HOT HOT HOT!
Pour and serve.

That sounds fantastic right now. I don’t have crown royal, but I have a few other bottles of whiskeys and scotches I could substitute with.
I might try to make one with some whistlepig piggy back
