Strange Fruit Encounter-Cheramoya?

I was down at the local farmers market this morning and this guy who always has the strangest things from all over had this stuff. I think its Cheramoya. Mebbe Sherimiya? I'm not really sure...
But god, it was so good. It had SUCH a strange flavor. It was definately vanilla, but with a strong citrusy-tangy flavor too. I've never, EVER tasted anything like it. It was wild.
Anyone know what I'm talking about? I'm sure its not native to this part of the world, 'cause I've never seen one before, and I love my strange fruits....

OH YES CHERIMOYA....
those fruits are the best. my relatives have a cerimoya tree in their backyard and their last harvest was really spectacular.
i've been posting on another board asking ppl if you can find cherimoya here in the EU but no luck. i know the fruit is native to the western south american reigion and is able to be grown in places such as new zealand and the southern us.
god, i hope they still have some cherimoyas when i go back to the US cause now i'm craving some!

if u want my opinion...
cherimoya tastes so much better than mangosteens...mangosteens are good don't get me wrong, but they taste "similar" to other fruits such as rambutan and lychees...
buy a cherimoya if u encounter one...worth the price it's going for i bet

I know this may come a little late, but I've only just discovered this website after seeing my first 'cheramoya' tonight! It's also known as the 'Dragon Fruit', apparently and it was in my local Tesco store. Don't know if you have Tesco wherever you are in the world, but thought you'd like to know that they now stock them, anyway! Happy eating.. Looby x

I'm curious if you did a search for Cheramoya and ended up here?
That would be far out.

I could see that. They really taste like vanilla-y custard.
