If you have knots it's a done deal. Sometimes though a light late casing helps keep the micro climate good for pin formation, but with that many knots you're all set.

For PE I still get more PE looking fruits even with a really late casing, where the casing layer doesn't colonize at all. YMMV but I know for me even if I'm late I prefer to try a casing rather than nothing
Here's a comparison
Late casing (knots/small blobs already forming when cased)

No casing

Don't have a full shot of a blob tub but you get the idea.

Its also completely possible you get lucky and have a PE culture that will put out mostly normal looking fruits without a casing but I haven't seen that happen very often.
It's hard to tell for sure from your pic, but those look more like pins and not like the beginnings of blob formations to me. So really I have no idea how it's going to turn out

So far i have cased my PE shoeboxes with 2, .5" casings and now its grown threw the second casing and im patching everyday i just ran out of casing material and my shoeboxes are getting pretty full of casing if i were to stop patching is there a good chance i will still end up with blobs ? its been 12 days since i spawned so im assuming i wont be seeing pins for at least a other week. Should i go buy some more jiffy and pasteurize it so i can keep patching until there is no room left to patch

Personally I’d stop and just see what happens. That’s a pretty deep casing already.

it’ll probably pin fine on top when it’s fully colonized.. might be fewer pins but they usually make up for it in size and final weight is usually on point

Here’s one of my current ones. Super thin casing cuz I didn’t make enough and ran out after doing the bigger tub first.

Looks like it’s pinning normally. Sooo many knots though. Even the chunks of peat are just covered in them.

AKA that pinset is miraculous. Ive been having good luck with only a single casing layer as well. If PE wasnt so intensely powerful, it would be all Id ever grow due to its sheer reliablity and long harvest window. Also, I tend to find non pe varities more user friendly for social settings

@AKA...I’m dying to see what your tub looks like now! I harvested all my PE testicles and because it was so moist I didn’t bother soaking it or hydrating it for the second flush. I believed it had enough moisture in the cake to let it run its course for the second flush and I was right. I already have a ton of pins. The only thing is is the substrate (casing) layer is gray and it’s not because it’s dry because it’s moist. It gets plenty of light it gets plenty of FAE. I’m just not sure if it’s bruised mycelium on the casing layer or if it’s a contaminant or what because even the pins have this grayish film on them and when I rub it off it’s the regular nice healthy brown cap color....normal. I guess I’ll just post a picture and tell me what you think.

You can see at the top right hand side of the tub I wiped the cap clean and if you zoom into the picture you can see all the fruit, pins, but they’re gray and camouflage in with the rest of the substrate so it’s hard to see unless you enlarge and look closely. Thanks for having a peek I’m kind of stuck on this one. I looked all through the search engine and gray substrate pictures it the posting on how things should look and how things shouldn’t look… Etc.…. Thanx. Peace, Love, and Mycelium! Ernie

Those are fine.. not a contam. At least from what I see. I believe that’s the “oatmeal” you were referring to earlier haha. The grey on the sub is just new myc.

Yes but it’s all over the fruits too!! I know you probably already know that and I trust you 100%. I’m just not comfortable with how I wiped off that one that stands out like a sore thumb. That’s how much gray is on all the fruits.
