Mazatapec going too slow?
    #2717010 - 05/22/04 11:27 PM (19 years, 8 months ago)

I knocked up 12 jars with some Mazatapec spores on 5/13/04, and I can still only see MINIMAL mycelium growth. I dont see any actual white yet, they just appear slightly "different." My Hawaiian jars are doing excellent though, and all the jars are almost 100% colonized. They were innoculated like 5 or 6 days apart, that's it. I admit I may have innoculated them slightly different, and the spores may have been injected more towards the center than towards the edge, but I should still see some growth by now right?

I did a bunch of jars on 5/15 and one syringe they're taking off but on the jars I used from another syringe (Like 6 of them) I only see one tiny spec of myc between all the jars.  I don't care though because I have a bunch of the others.  I also did the Karo Tek with the 2 syringes and one of them did great and the other no growth (yet)  Gotta be healthier spores or something.

I wouldn't worry, just leave them be. 5/13 is only 10 days ago. If in 30 days there's still no sign of any substantial growth then perhaps you need to think up a strategy. Perhaps a gentle shaking of one jar & see if that speeds things up.

If its any comfort, I've had jars with identical spores inoculated within minutes of each other sit around doing nothing for 15-20 days while others were complete colonized ...

For informational purposes, what substrate in what ratios in what size containers are you using? Are they sealed or with filtered tops?

Good luck!

Is your substrate too wet or too dry in those jars?

I have had my greated success ever with Mazatapec. I love that strain. I made like 10 prints off the 1st flush.

Substrate is the exact same in both sets of jars... .5 cup Vermic, .25 cup BRF, .25 cup Water is what I was going to use, but it wasn't enough water (Simple Cubensis Growing Tek measurements). I added maybe another half cup of water... you can see the complete process at the growlog I have supplied a link to in my signature. I really need to add more pics to it.

I would say that adding that extra 1/2 cup of water is the culprit that is slowing down your growth.

The maximum fruiting formula for cubes is VVVV
1/2 cup verm
1/4 cup brf
1/4 cup water(60cc's)

Thats what you used and then you added another 1/2 cup on top of that, which makes your substrate entirely too wet and slows growth.

My two pennies

Then why are my other set of jars, which are using the same mix, going considerably faster? All of the hawaiians are doing excellent, all of the mazatapecs are doing shitty :frown:
