March Madness
    #27255903 - 03/16/21 05:08 PM (2 years, 10 months ago)

Anybody get into March Madness?

Last year we didn't have one (along with many other things), so it's great to have it back. The 68 teams have been selected and things are set to tip off this week with the play-in games on Thursday, and then onto Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon for the full-on madness as 64 basketball programs competing for the national championship will be whittled down to 16 when the smoke clears by Tuesday morning.

It really is my favorite sporting event of the year. The emotions are crazy because for the vast majority of these basketball players, this is it. There's no NBA after this so for most of these kids this is the end of the journey so to speak, and the NCAA national championship is the Mount Everest summit for them.

And every game it's either win or your season is over, so every single game is a game 7. It's amazing.

The 1 seeds are Gonzaga, Baylor, Illinois, and Michigan. Gonzaga is the tournament favorite and they have not lost...at all this season. Not once. Illinois is on fire and playing like a team possessed after a semi-slow start, and they boast arguably the best center and guard in the entire country. Baylor is excellent and Michigan is as well -- but Michigan suffered a devastating injury to arguably their best player right before the tournament, so most analysts have them as the most likely #1 seed to exit the tournament the fastest because of that injury.

I'd say the consensus best 10 of the 64 teams are Gonzaga (26-0), Baylor (22-2), Illinois (23-6), Michigan (20-4), Alabama (24-6, and yes they're actually good in basketball now), Houston (24-3), Ohio State (21-9), Iowa (21-8), Texas (19-7) and Kansas (20-8).

But of course the many upsets are just a March tradition as all it takes is one bad game and your season is over. High seeded teams will fall...just a matter of who and when.

Here's this year's bracket.

All games will be broadcast on CBS, TNT, TBS and Tru TV.

Oh and the consensus best player in the tournament is probably guard Cade Cunningham of Oklahoma State. Kid is a freshman and is already projected to be the #1 pick in the next NBA draft.

Go Blue!

Michigan has always been my team-- They did an outstanding job in hiring Juwaun Howard as their next Head Coach and he has done an even better job coaching. Michigan definitely has the players to make it all the way to the Finals and win it.

The Big 10 in general is fucking stacked.

Should be a great tourney!

The Juwan Howard hire was a homerun. Actually a grand slam. He also has the #1 recruiting class in the nation incoming next season.

I will need to check out the class for next year, I have not had the chance to do so. I normally do follow recruiting. I hope Hunter Dickenson sticks around for 1 more year, but I doubt it. He is a stud. He reminds me of Jokic

I actually think he'll stay...barring a totally dominant tournament run from an individual standpoint and subsequent national championship. And again I hope I'm wrong but it's extremely difficult for me to see them doing that without Isaiah Livers.

One guy who is kinda expected to be gone is Franz Wagner, as Wagner is expected to be a first round NBA draft pick.

Livers wont be ready for the NCAA Tourney? I know he was out for the last game of the Big 10 tournament but the announcers were speaking at that time as though there was a chance he would be back.

I mean they left the door slightly open for a miracle, and that would probably require Michigan going on a deep run to give him more time...but even then it looks very unlikely. In an interview he had the sound of a guy whose college career is over.

Hello Paw Paw good morning, are you watching the madness??

Day 1 was absolutely wild. 2 seed Ohio State bounced by 15 seed Oral Roberts in a massive upset. Also 4 seed Purdue, 5 seed Tennessee, and 6 seed San Diego State all ousted by double digit seeds :derfase:

Day 2 begins at 11 am :derdance:

The Houston Cougars win over Rutgers was a barn burner
Rutgers led the whole game until the Cougs rallied off a 14-2 run at the last
Damn that was a great game:snowman:

How 'bout them Jayhawks!  I could give a shit less about this year of covid and the NCAA.  Tuned in to a portion of USC/Kansas and it was, just give me the NBA.

Maybe one team that has never won a title before and I don't care who it is even in the year of covid, just, I will watch the championship game.  This is so boring and I have no clue.

March dumbness.  Who makes all the money, what about the women weight room.  That was kind of pathetic.  Who brings all the money into the NCAA so they can even have the team?

The woman.  I mean men's football and basketball.  God bless them.:wonka:

WE ARE OWED!  Nope, really not but that weight room, sure they hit it a lot, means so much to gender equality and wokeness.

Dude that game against LSU was fantastic, high level stuff. Extremely intense game not for the faint of heart.

That comeback was nuts!! I thought the Cougars were toast.

Man this opening tournament weekend was so much fun. Lots of huge upsets. How about Oral freaking Roberts in the Sweet 16?!??

:winnersurprise:

Well you should be able to watch the Sweet 16 this weekend. Elite 8 games will be Monday & Tuesday but those will be in primetime so you should be able to catch those too Paw unless you work late.

Hey Paw by the way I actually watched March Madness on a blotter of LSD on Saturday, and then ate two more on Monday and watched :derfase:

The NIT should just be destroyed.

Go Zags for the title in what matters.  Stockton will be there! All time leader in assists!  Wonder if his old man still owns that bar in Washington or even if he is still alive.  Man likes his privacy.  See why his son moved back there basically right after he retired from the NBA.

The records of the teams during covid and how many games played and all I got is the Zags.  So go Gonzaga.

What was the last time a team went undefeated and won a title?  Kentucky?  UCLA way back when?
