Well at least I didn't get a massive overlay of the casing layer like in the past. Time to fruit these trays.

Very cool! Yeah consolidation is one of the important things with pans.
This is looking good, how are you going to fruit them?
Looking forward to see where this goes.

Some pins popped up overnight!
Must be the lightning but things look drier in the pics than irl.

Yes, but since it's experimental and I'm kinda playing it by ear as I go, I'd rather explain it all once the grow is finished so I can gain even more insight in order to be able to give a more detailed/accurate account of the entire process. All I can say is that it was nothing fancy and it's all been easy.

Tray #1:

Tray #2:

It's 55F (12°C) outside, they seem to be struggling a bit. I think I'm going to be using a fishtank heater for my next grow.
Also, I'm regretting not having added a bit more nutes in the sub. These only had a bit of rice broth as nutes.

I installed a fishtank heater yesterday and things seem to have picked up the pace in 24hrs. The FTH seems to be raising the RH in the chamber quite a bit too and them fruits seem to be asking for air so I just flipped the lid of the tote. The chamber already has a ton of holes though. I'm understanding now how some air stones like jcm's could come in real useful for this. I'm getting some for my next grow.

I wanted to give it more time before saying anything but I feel something's up with these trays. Both trays are developing really slow and them gills still look sporeless. In the beginning I thought maybe they'd produce spores later on but is this even normal at this stage?

Yea they look funny lol
Too bad, I wanted to make some prints. The culture on the trays is the only culture I have atm, maybe I need to start some spores.

I'll be out of town for a day or two so I had to haverst today, they seem kinda ready anyway.
Here's both trays. Let me know what you think, are these even pans? All fruits look sporeless.

This is the ghetto chamber I put together at the last minute. Please note the following is only a mere account of what I did and in no way I'm suggesting this experimental chamber I whipped up in the last minute is good. I have no doubt there are better ways to do things. Atually, I came to realize eventually that a chamber like jcm's would be a lot more maintenance free

Used a 1/4” drill bit to make 12 lower holes and 20 upper holes.
Since I know that's a lot of holes, I taped the lower ones in the beginning and just tried to read the surface to see if they will be ok with me untaping the holes gradually over the course of some days. Eventually all the holes ended up untaped before pins even started to pop up.
That white contraption you can see is just an ultrasonic mist maker I had laying around, so I used it manually whenever I felt the surface needed it. So in a sense the mist maker was for this chamber what a hand sprayer is for cubes. The problem is that the mist it makes stays at the surface level of the water, so in order to fix this I just opened the lid a bit and the air currents created from this motion was enough to disperse the mist throughout the whole chamber.
Up until this point there was no fishtank heater yet but temps were kinda lowish so I bought a FTH in the end which stayed plugged 24/7. The FTH not only raised the temp, it also made the water evaporate at a much faster rate, which in turn raised the RH in the chamber noticeably, making the mist maker absolutely redundant.
I noticed that the trays started to look a bit too wet so I had to flip the lid to allow more FAE middle flush.
Takeaway from the experience:
- Add more nutes next time.
- Get rid of the mist maker, keep the FTH and buy a set of air stones.
