How long do you think this cryptocurrency bull market will last?

We all remember the fist real bull run, years back, that awesome yet-to-be surpassed spike in the graphs of most older coins.
It was shortlived, good and followed by a long period of MEH.
Now the horizon is coming up again.
Call it a bull market, call it a bubble..
How long do you think it will last this time?
Cause when it pops, you gotta pull out in time because everything will drop in freefall"
How long to you think we have to go till it plummets?

Until people realize that it's a fiat currency that you can't even hold in your hand, until then, or until J.P. Morgan says so is my guess.

So wrong on so many levels. Bitcoin is hard money and JPM is nothing more than a minor participant and a spectator at this point.
Bitcoin has many more bull cycles and this current bull run most likely has 6-12 months left, but that won't be the end of Bitcoin at all. Crypto is changing the global financial system and will only continue to do so in the coming years. It's out with the old and in with the new. There's no point fighting it, Wall Street isn't fighting it, they're embracing it because they know it's inevitable.
I truly believe this current bull run is going to get into a massive bubble that will shock the whole financial system. We haven't seen anything yet, it's going to get super stupid before it calms down.

Please know; NO.
Bitcoin is NOT hard money.
Crypto is inbetween Fiat and Precious Metals.
There is ONE gold, and it is Element 79, that gets created if 2 neutron stars have sex.
You have to run a physical gold mine to get physical gold, whether your mine consists of maw, paw and lil johnny swirling mud through a pan in a creek, or the South Deep Gold Mine of witwatersrand, South Africa, where they drill so deep into earths crust they have to aircondition the tunnels to avoid the miners from frying in the heat.
That gets you the that you and I, and God with us, love so much.
You can say: 'Crypto is hard currency." but no!
There are a limited number of tokens, yes, but coins are forked into new coins all the time SO THAT MEANS NOTHING. You can't fork Gold into Gold 2.0 and you cant create G00ld, Goldie and Goldz along with it to compete with it. What you can do with gold is create derivatives, paper gold, but to anyone with half a brain paper gold isnt gold but in fact part of the problem -derivatives- that gold hedges against. With crypto, a derivative is as good as the original, and many crypto's now are 100% better than bitcoin.
There will come a time soon when Bitcoin no longer is the leading crypto, and very big money will be made by those who bought its successor on the cheap, early.
There will even come a time something much better than crypto will be invented and crypto will become as beside the point as bakelite grammophone records in the iTunes era.
There will NEVER come a time where Gold, Platinum, Palladium and Rhodium will cease to be the Kings of Metal, unless civilisation will go extinct, Even then, they will remkain valuable as we snuff out of history, unlike bitcoin.
So remember that its GOLD BEFORE AND AFTER.
Don't lose sight of it

Till it starts getting regulated, right now even for what looks like a pure bull market, the volatility seems to indicate some big players are playing shenanigans. It's just too easy to manipulate right now. And the people that hurts is generally the retail investor.

Yeah, I agree that other crypto projects will do much better than Bitcoin on a percentage basis, but for this current bull run the main theme is Bitcoin and its new place in the global financial system. I'm loaded up with the Bitcoin mining companies, which are a very leveraged play on the price of Bitcoin. There's very few that even trade publicly today. In my opinion, these companies will (and already have) provide the greatest overall returns, even better than most of the alt coins.
There's going to be a serious mania in Bitcoin and crypto this year, there are no current signs of anything resembling a bubble like environment. Hell, there's not even a Bitcoin ETF available for trading in the US yet, that's all coming in the weeks and months ahead. It's going to get stupid, this has been very tame at this point.

I think you'll see a different view in a few months. The end of the pandemic and the shift in politics that the pandemic caused will change a lot of long-standing assumptions about major forces in our economic lives. I'd mostly expect that causes some serious questions about crypto, but I would not dare say I was sure.

I buy so little at a time that I don't let myself get affected negatively by it. I'm still going to only put money into bitcoin, but not that much, so if it crashes I won't feel bad and I'll just buy a lot more.

No, we're not going to see a -85% downturn for Bitcoin after the peak, that's not going to happen. This is an entirely different market with totally different investors. Bitcoin is now mainstream with the Big Banks and other financial institutions endorsing it. I could see a -60% to -65% decline, but not a total crash like the last cycle.

I'm 50/50 on that. There were investors and institutions last time who all pulled out. A lot of rational minds are agreeing that investors and institutions will pull out of this one just as fast

The institutions were very small players before the last run up, it was mainly the original whales that sold into strength. Retail and institutions are almost 50/50 for the buying in the recent 6 months. I would assume institutional will overtake retail in the months ahead. Will some institutions sell into the peak? Yes, but most are going to hold for longer term. The retail dumb money has yet to come into the market, that's going to fall into the Bitcoin ETF when it comes available. Hell, there's going to be ETF's for Ether and other coins before this party comes to an end. We still have a long way to go, it's still early innings.

Thats exactly what people were saying in 2017. Nothing has changed. There were institutional investors in 2017 too. Bitcoin marketcap is sitting at 1 trillion+. Id be willing to bet my entire net worth that the total money these big companies/investors have invested in BTC is sitting under 70 billion. Less than 10% total market cap. This can literally go tits up at any moment.
I think we are two market cycles away from any sort of reduced volatility regarding price drops on market corrections/bear market shifts.

When the bear market comes this time many altcoins are going to go up. This particular market has dynamics that are changing rapidly, the ease that you can now invest, coinbase giving away good crypto for free, this thing is going to boom big and crash big, and then repeat. (Or at least I'm hoping)

Question for the smart guys, are there any apps that let you buy puts on cryptocoins?

I'm not sure I'd be so sanguine about dumb money retail not already being involved. If nothing else, there's this issue of crypto's global nature and a lot of people we know nothing about being into it and a lot of other issues we know nothing about being wrapped up in the market, too.
If Xi Jinping or Narendra Modi waking up on the wrong side of the bed matters for crypto, I think the models that come from the moderately transparent and liquid U.S. capital markets might not be much help here.

I think there's some dumb retail money in at this point, but nothing like what's coming in the months ahead. The Bitcoin ETF is going to be a massive game changer for retail and institutional money. Let's be honest, it's been a pain in the ass to buy crypto for the average investor, so much so they haven't even gone through the logistical loopholes to doing it. The ability to buy it in their stock accounts is going to remove that barrier. In fact, Bitcoin ETF's have just started in Canada, Europe and South America. That reality can't be discounted for the coming bubble in crypto.
Let's also be perfectly honest, mainstream institutional money hasn't even entered the crypto market in any meaning full manner. Hell, they just stopped bashing it and now are forced to obtain some positions in it. At a certain point, everyone is going to want some exposure to Bitcoin to cover their asses on performance. Managed Money is all about chasing performance and that's what is coming for the crypto market.

https://coinmarketcap.com/rankings/exchanges/
When choosing an exchange, your primary concerns should be trading volume (as much as possible) on the trading pairs you want to exchange. US participants are unfortunately these days excluded from Binance's flagship exchange unless diligently using a VPN to evade the geofencing prohibition. Coinbase and Kraken tend to be the usual suspects for US based users.
Note that if you are trading a relatively new or unused altcoin, you'll want to look it up on CoinMarketCap and then hit the "Market" tab on that coin's page, to see where it trades with the highest volume. For example, here is the "Market" tab for Solana (SOL).
