cheap backpacks vs expensive ones

Just thought I'd throw this out there.
I had bought a couple gregory baltoro backpacks for something like 250$ each and they are cool and stuff., However. I am loving my cheap ass 20$ backpack that I bought on eBay. I just bought a 2nd one for 25$. Maybe sometimes the more expensive isn't always the more enjoyable. I feel like I need to be careful with the more expensive ones. Idk why. I just feel the cheaper ones are stupid simple and get the job done. I know own 6 different hiking/ trekking style backpacks and I intend to use them for organizing my stuff while traveling and doing outdoor stuff. I feel the 20$ one may be sufficient for carrying my packraft. I'm conflicted thou because they are all nice backpacks. I'm let you know how it goes

The baltoro 65 has an osprey duffel back mounted to it to serve as a buttpack. Wish I would've gotten a different color so I could have a variety of different looking stuff

The cheap ones are good till u try to go to hell and back and then u realize even the best most expensive shit still doesn't cut it. Those Gregory aren't bad. They're not the best tho.

Ive been using my Alice pack several years now and it has withstood lots of abuse. It's just a bit bulky because of the frame. I really only plan to use the cheap ones for simple stuff. If im on an exploration into the backcountry in Alaska, which is what I intend the baltoros for, then I would definitely use the better quality stuff. But for what I'm doing now, which is cross country state park rafting and camping, I think the cheap ones work just fine. I think my concern is getting food on my baltoros and attracting a bear whenever I do get the chance to use it

I've got a karrimor sf sabre, 40l with 2x 20l side pockets. This pack has been my home in the past and I've never needed anything bigger. Its solid and comfortable (for the first couple of days, after that nothing is comfortable) highly recommend.

Yeah volume and frame plays a large part as well as durability and it really mostly depends on what ur doing. The day/weekend trippers in moderate condition vs ur more serious expedition trekkers in the true extremes you'd bet ur life on. I'm not aware of this karrimor. I will say out of all the duds u have to sift thru you can infact find some solid quality deals in the cheapo and knock off realms. Some times the cheapest things last the longest and work the best. Making a serious bet on what's more likely to be a dud than not to save a few bucks maybe isn't always worth the potential danger.

The brand might not be in the US then. It was an investment but worth. I'm not an expedition guy, 2/3 weeks at most. Mainly trekking, survival and foraging. I took a cheapish northface one 250miles around Portugal a few years back. It cut me to ribbons, I had sores everywhere. Even got to the point where I bought a load of sponges and sewed them on to improve padding in areas.

Anyone use a Vango backpack/rucksack? I am thinking about using this for a 30 day thru-hike https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15900251/vango-sherpa-70-80-rucksack-15900251

I agree, but when people who have no idea about kit, buy you kit, you get northface.

Its so frustrating. I was in a department store few weeks back and the north face I was looking at seemed remarkably low quality like far worse than the shitty standard they've been pushing for a long time now. It seemed to almost be falling apart at the seems in the store as I handled it and seemed to be made of a hodgepodge of cheap materials they could sew together from junk off the factory floor. I couldn't believe it and of course it was absolutely top dollar. I was completely flabbergasted and appalled. Damn stylish tho. Patagonia I think is the only one left that still has an iron clad to hell and back warranty which is why we were paying thay much to these companies to start with but u ppl I guess forgot and let them get away with sweatshop murder. I don't care what it costs I need serious gear where I'm not gonna die or lose extremities from frostbite or trench rot and that will last I used to expect it was guaranteed by a reputable company but maybe I'm the asshole
