Using two factor it's a good security practice.
A lot of providers are already scanning and reading your email, so switching to privacy oriented email provider would help. Here is a list of email providers.

Depends on how they are reading your emails. If they've compromised your computer, you'll need to backup your data and reinstall the OS. If they just have your email password, the 2 factor will help a lot.

Two factor using Google Authenticator and shit like that isn't anywhere near as secure as people assume it to be. Those phone apps can be cracked by a competent hacker who wants your shit. Will definitely help though and should boot anyone who's logged in, but consider wiping and reinstalling as well as using new programs.

If someone has already gained access to his email account, I would say the chance of success using any type of phishing attempt has already exponentially increased. This kind of maneuver has been around long enough that, like I said, the competent ones will have an intelligent way of getting around your so-called security. Cyber security is a joke. I am not one of them, so I can't tell you a specific way of thwarting 2FA. But, a google search will show you that it does happen and should outline basic methods. Generally you have to be a moron (or high ) to fall prey to most attempts, but I have seen it happen. When using any kind of third party app on your phone, I believe all that would take is knowing a password, no? The majority of people use the same password for everything. Granted, a lot of people on here are of a higher intelligence and are no stranger to security and anonymity. But, these things do happen. Hell, look at all of the recent hacks into the US govt's "most secure" networks. Bit of a different scale than someone's 2FA to get into their email, but.. You get my point, right?

What pisses me off the most is fear that these fuckers not only read my mail but can see what I'm doing on the desktop
Far cry I know , but it's possible right ?

Eh, possible. Unlikely. If you're worried about that, wipe and reset. I think they would have had to have control of your computer to download a program that would allow that kind of privacy invasion. Unless, like I said, you were high and got phished.

Gypsy Boy, are you thinking you were hacked or something that tricks your signal to connect to an alternate cell tower kind of thing?

If you think, that someone "hacked" your Gmail, the best bet would be to change the password and if you used the same password for different services, change it there, too. Everyone should activate 2-factor if available.
But you don't need to worry about your desktop, unless you visited a malicious website from an email or installed some shit someone sent you.
Someone very wise said: "if you want to be the cabal, install Gentoo"
