Is 5qts of spawn to 1 brick coir (650g) the recommended ratio?
I ask because this part of the post reads like speculation instead of instruction:
"say you use 5q of spawn to one brick 650g of coir for a a tub"

Everyone's coir is different. Sometimes 5 is way too much sometimes its just right. Depends on your brand etc... Eco earth comes sometimes fiberous sometimes powdery. Requirements for water change a lot. Gotta test it by hand. Experience isn't made up for by reading a tek but a tek will help you gain experience.

This is cool. been seeing this for post for a long time but finally gave it a read through and you have some amazing pics.
This has probably been asked but... how did you do the tub with half albino half regular shrooms?

Thanks for the tek and the time invested in the thread Bod and many others.
Got my first tubs going, looking for some feedback..
The local spots were out of all clear tubs minus the 105qt sterlites, so that's what I went with to start. Finally some of the gasketed ones came in so got some 54s and 80s for the future.
I believe my sub may have be a bit wet, lots of condensation on the side..I've only been misting everyday at least ...just kidding I haven't misted once so far...0 MISTING.. I dont plan on misting anytime soon.
These 105s dont stack if the lids on upside down. About 3 days ago I lifted the lid up onto the handles, and put in some rubber bumper pads to help create an air gap for more FAE..I think I may need to add some more rubber stoppers or remove lids to help evap some of the moisture.
Tubs were spawned 2/28 and 3/1.

Also after reading through this thread 2x (mostly just reading bods, caps, aka, or pastsy's replies) I found this post on page 49 to be a good "summary" of alot of the thread.

Definitely interested in trying this TEK, however I'm currently using Pasty's EZ dialed tubs. Even with two extra holes on the short side it seems like my tub is slightly on the wet side. My room humidity outside of the boxes is ~45%.
My question is, will an unmodified tub be too wet in my conditions? If a tub that has ~18 holes in it is slightly too wet I fear an unmodded tub would turn into a fish tank

Unmod gets more FAE than modded and people sometimes have issues with corners drying out so

Just from the lid being cracked? I find that hard to believe, but I can't argue with experience I'll give it a shot

I find my unmodded tubs don't seem to get enough FAE unless I leave a big gap but then the corners and sides dry out fast. Working all day doesn't allow me to mist so I end up coming home to an overly dry surface. I stick with modded tubs for this reason but that's after years of using unmodded tubs and just fanning and misting daily.

I studied my lids carefully, and found I could strategically add a bit of hot glue to my lids to close large gaps on the corners of my 28q low profile sterilite lids. Helps keep the corners from getting scorched. Also... zero air movement... thats key for me.

Here's my unpopular opinion. Monotubs only get gas exchange. Even loose poly doesn't provide FAE it provides gas exchange. This is why you have shit grows doing oysters in a monotub.
Sgfc gets way more FAE than tubs and yet oysters still do poorly in them.
Sgfc gets more FAE than a tub. And PF cakes have a higher surface area to volume ratio. They should dry out faster than substrates in tubs. Given both their surface area and the FAE of a sgfc. Yet cakes do fine with a couple mistings a day.
Tubs hardly need attention any flavor of tub tek. If you dial your growing nuances in

Thank you for this tek, Bod. I got interested in mushroom cultivation near the start of the pandemic and honestly, I’ve had so much fun with it so far. I legit never thought growing these mushrooms could be just so interesting. Read a bunch, including this whole thread twice. Here’s my current grow, 2nd iteration overall. 1st full batch was vendor MS>grain, then I cloned a strong first flush sample onto agar.
This current batch is wedges of that master plate to grain, 5 quarts spawn in each tub and slightly dryer coir than your coir tek recommends to adjust for my local flavor of air. Ambient sunlight seems to be more than enough.
Against bedroom wall:
Left tub:
Right tub:
My one deviation is my cutting up of the gasket to fine tune gas exchange and humidity. Next iteration I’m going to evenly remove a few more of those gasket pieces and I think it will be spot on. I didn’t have to mist or fuss with these tubs at all, not even really on the first iteration. I got lucky on that front, I feel.
If I were to give advice to myself a year ago it would be that these mushrooms don’t need my help to grow directly. Not really. They’re good on that front. They need my help to stay free from contams. If I focus on that aspect by by putting effort into sterile techniques and clean spawn, I feel like it makes the entire process much easier and less finicky overall.
Thanks again!

Thank you - and don’t know. Room temp is 70-73f @ ~40% local humidity and I just let the tubs do their thing.
Edit - progress pics

Has anyone tried this tek with pan cyans? I currently have one colonizing so I guess I will know soon, but it would be nice to know if anyone has done it with success

Are most people running a humidifier in their grow rooms? If so do you guys black/white the walls to protect it?
