The video looks healthy to me but I don't see any water beads. That might be because I'm watching it on a cell phone though.
If it's not covered in a blanket of tiny water beads, you need to mist and lower the airflow so it doesn't evaporate so quickly.

It’s got beads! I don’t know what happened to the rest of this post but I guess I’ll type it again. I believe the PE tub is looking pretty good. I also got a bunch of PF cakes shredded which I mixed with a 1:1.5 ratio CVG with casing. And I have two giant BRF RECTANGULAR cakes that I dunked and chicken cutletized, misted down the perlite, walls and lid. We will see what happens there. Just thought I’d give an update and if any of the new jacks think that they can’t do this well I thought the same thing only 2 1/2 months ago. The only time you will certainly fail is if you do nothing at all. If you do nothing at all you will grow nothing at all. That much I can truly promise you. Thanks again guys for all your help and getting me to this point. Oh yeah I also birthed A lonely cake into a rotisserie chicken container. Lol. Well I couldn’t get the fucker to fruit on it own! So I shredded it and mix it in some CVG. Man I am having so much fun doing this it’s ridiculous. It’s got to be the best hobby. Hope everybody is well.

@RamJam... yes it looks that way. You’ve only been doing this for five months and you got a full canopy. How hell did you accomplish this so quickly."

So what does anybody know about bruised mycelium?? So I think I got this perfectly healthy 32qt tub of PE growing. I got sick of fanning it so are used a little 6 inch fan. Four hours later I come back to look at it and it’s all bluish gray and I thought it was contaminated and it still very well maybe. Somebody else suggested that it was bruised. What do you all think?
Keep in mind that it turned from perfect fluffy spiky white mycelium to that in a couple of hours. It’s hard to tell from the photo.

Why are you fanning it at all, Ernie? PE takes about 3 weeks to pin so you need to just let it be. You can love substrates to death. Are you going to case the PE? Looks bare which isn’t very conducive to nice pin sets. Have you checked out Tedsdead PE casing strategy yet?

I’m not even sure what that means. I thought casing meant after I spawn my grain and mix it with the CVG and level it out...I thought “casing” was just the thin layer that I put over the top still exposed colonized grain??? Which I did. Until I bruised it it was a perfectly even healthy white carpet of mycelium. The reason why I was feeling it was because I thought I was supposed to. I thought that was supposed to help and even pin set form. I had no idea that it takes three weeks for penis envy to start pinning. I spawned it on 2/24. One week later the substrate was fully colonized. So at that point I took off the packing tape I had on the 2 inch holes that I drilled and I put micropore tape and started fanning ang misting when it needed it. When I noticed that it kept drying out daily I put a second layer of micro pour tape. I don’t know what you mean by it looks bare??? What am I supposed to do at this stage of the game to keep this alive and healthy Fahtst? Thank you so much for responding. When I ever came home three hours later and saw just about my entire substrate grayish bluish green guy was so upset I wanted to cry. This is my first time then I’ve done where I grew from an MSS to agar, made three transfers isolated genetics to the best I could and inoculated my jars and then spawned to bulk taking every precaution possible to avoid contamination. And that was the first thing I thought when I saw the color. So any help would be greatly appreciated because I put a lot of work into this tub is a lot of love. By the way I love your expression… “One can love substrate to death”. How true that is. So yes the question is how do I save mine. Thanx again.

You’re fine.. it’s easily fixed.. it’s just bruising. Casing is a muddy term used on the OMC.. could just mean a top layer of bulk sub material or something non-nutritious like a peat/verm mix like in that link I posted... which is the technical and correct terminology for casing. What you did is a top layer (coir/verm bulk material). For whatever reason, PE tend to prefer a casing but some ppl get away with using a top layer with good results.. depends on the culture.
I can’t remember the member name that just used a thick top layer and got great results instead of peat/verm so maybe you want to go that route. Check out teds link but the gist is that once the surface of the PE sub is fully colonized, you add a 1/2” of casing material.. once that’s fully colonized, add another 1/2” of casing and then when that fully colonizes, patch thinly with more casing material any areas that poke through.. by that time, pinning should start happening and that’s when you stop adding any casing material.. misting lightly the whole time as needed (maybe once a day or once every other day) just to keep the casing moist. If you don’t want to obtain casing material (peat/verm/lime/gypsum or jiffy mix), I’d just use coir/verm in its place.
When I say bare, I mean the myc looks thick and matted which usually has a harder time producing lots of pins instead of a looser, airy, more rhizomorphic growth where lots of knots can grow and form into pins.. that tends to happen within the body of the casing.
The tub design you’re using are suppose to be set and forget.. meaning you don’t have to fan or mist (even though a mist before first flush isn’t unheard of.. just have to play it by sight, but you shouldn’t be having to mist and fan everyday)

Thank you. I was in panic mode after I read your first post. So should I leave it be? Or should I case it now? It’s been fully colonized for over a week? If I can get away with using my core and Verm I will And here I am thinking full lush wall to wall mycelium is what I wanted!!! That is so confusing. I thought mycelium is good?!?!

Hey bud. Nice of you to chime in. I was in crisis mode! Lol. Between the dingbat move of bruising my mycelium and then not realizing I had to case the PE variety I was all messed up. It’s just goes to show that I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing. There goes that theory a cube is a cube. I had no idea about the casing. I thought casing was just that layer I put over the expose grain when I spawn it and mix it up. Well it’s cased now. I actually have a order of Dino soil on its way. Looking forward to checking it out.

What you’re referring to is a pseudo casing. It’s not really a casing but kinda lol. It mainly helps with surface conditions.
Also don’t worry a lot of us have no idea what we’re doing lol.

I don’t even know what that means psuedo casing. What I’m saying is I didn’t realize that I had to case anything with penis envy. I thought casing was when I put that extra layer of CVG over the exposed spawn when I first mix to get in my CVG and grain. Unless that’s what pseudo casing is?

Awesome work ernie! And with the UB rice, i have found that putting the rice into jars and steaming or PCing it in the jars for 45 minutes works alot better than just inoculating the bags. Also i innoc the jars of rice in a SAB. This will definitely up your success rate! I was having bags fail left and right!! Now they only fail if they get some bad agar. Which hasn't happened in 2 months! Keep it up brotha, mush love!
