Yeast, Brewers or Nutritional powder?
    #27233442 - 03/02/21 10:22 AM (3 years, 16 hours ago)

So I remember making Tiger's Milk shakes ala Adell Davis featuring Brewers yeast.
I almost died, ugh! Anyway, don't I want Brewers yeast, not the other?

My wife has bag of Bakers yeast, but I don't think I want that either.

So, my agar Rx would be,

6g 1.3% Agar, 6g LME, 450ml, 1g Brewers yeast
And after I do some Oats, I'll  add 25% Oat broth.

I'm liking 1.3% Telephone agar, juicy but holds together.

So, is it Brewers yeast?

I dnt use any of that nonsense. For me it's mea or potato agar. First time i tried to use yeast was the last time cuz i wound up with wine.
And grain soak is no good as far as im concerned.

maybe i'm missing something but why would you want to add yeast to your agar mixture? the yeast would die in the PC cycle anyways

As a nutritional source. I'd use apple juice b4 id use yeast. However many do. I dnt knw if brewers yeast and nutritional yeast are the same thing. Id imagine a quick google search wud clear that up.

LOL, Wine! I got Barley Wine once brewing beer...
Hey, watch out for them dirty 'ol spores.

Ya nutritional yeast came later, has decent flavor, sprinkle on food, popcorn.
Brewers yeast could gag a maggot!

I’ve tried 1g nut. Yeast 10g agar 10g lme 500ml water.  The nut yeast didn’t help, so I didn’t continue using it.

That's understandable! I think it's supposed to be nutritional yeast, which is dead/exploded. Paul Stamets was sloppy with his terms, writing "nutritional yeast" once and "yeast" in every subsequent mention. (GGMM)

I can't say first hand whether it helps. I use it as cheap insurance since enough people have indicated it helps.

Yeah! End of story, I got Now Brewer's Yeast powder, 454g for $10 local health food store.
So that's 2 cents, 1g per each 500ml agar, works out to a lifetime supply!

I can't say for sure that brewer's yeast won't work but I'm fairly certain that's not what you want to use.

It's nutritional yeast.  For nutrients.  Nutritional yeast contains: B3, B6, B2, B1, Folic acid and B12.

They sell it at the health food store. It's vegan popcorn seasoning

Nutritional yeast is pretty good popcorn seasoning for non-vegans as well. Just get the finely powdered kind, not the flakes. Powder is better on popcorn and for microbiology.
