@Lenz- nah, the ratio of plates to firewood is so small you really don't smell the plastic.

@tututotutu- seems I owe you an apology actually. I made a comment earlier that I thought I wasn't seeing your posts because you had blocked me and turns  out I had blocked you. Not sure how or recall when but my bad man.

With clones there’s still a lot of genetics in there. Ime running a clone from tissue is real close to ms.

The tissue samples I’ve grown out have been like spore grows but slightly better and usually with a couple fruits that look like the parent.

You gotta transfer from sectors and run those to find what you’re looking for. In my mind I see it as starting out with 100 strains and then cloning gets you down to  30 but keeps the ones you want in the mix.

So there’s still some digging to do.

so the perfect canopy of identical beasts would require sectoring a clone plate usually and growing them out to see which is good?

I completely understand what your saying AKA, but I've ran a few clone tissues on agar that don't sector. Would you clone a fruit from a clone grow that has the traits you want to farther narrow the genetics? I haven't had good luck from cloning. I'm trying again year to get me some winners to up my output and be more efficient.

Well I guess a lot could depend on how big your tissue sample is too. The PE shoebox in my signature was I think t3 from a clone, and the same culture run off the tissue sample plate was like a spore grow.

I really don’t know any of this for sure, just what I’ve experienced personally.

Yeah lately I have been cloning clones but haven’t fruited any yet so we’ll see. The ufo revert I’ve got about to pin is a clone of a clone of a clone.

I’m working on a making a tamp culture with good caps and just cloned a clone too. Should be on grain soon.

Ahh that’s really interesting, I did start to see a lot of sectoring on my clone plates recently but it was around T3/T4.

In that case though how the hell do you even test all the potential sectors that a tissue transfer plate might put out? Do you have to keep transferring all the sectors until you don’t see any more sectors and then test? I’m just not sure how that works because what happens when you transfer a sector and then it continues to sector and how do you keep track of the all of it? I’m probably overthinking but how do most people treat clones to get a banging culture they can run for years?

When I first started cloning I did have some plates that didn’t sector at all after like T3 but I haven’t seen that since:

So... I've moved into a new place and its pretty cramped and not ideal for growing anything. Its also cold as hell here, I'd prefer not to use space heaters or radiators or TiT methods or heat bombs.

However! There is a small boiler room/space that houses a hot water cylinder tank, its a sweet 75-77f in there at all times which is perfect, and also has a convenient little shelf. I've thrown up a quick sketch and I'm just wondering... would this work...? The door would be shut of course.

The only problems I can think of are FAE. Its pretty much sealed once the door is shut, the only sort of breathing space for this place is a small plastic vent in the door. The vent gaps are small though, I doubt the space gets much air. Also its dark, dark as hell. No light gets into this thing. Also the humidity is 40% which might be a problem.

Now I know I know, KISS right? I've never had a problem with FAE or air circulation before so this is my first time working with filters and fans and the sort. I was thinking of leaving the little fan on a low speed at all times? So it intakes air. If I could get any input on this set-up at all I'd really appreciate it :tongue2:

Pfffftt cubes shmubes! Truffles are really cool! Lots of resources here on the site I think there's a truffle discussion too!

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17910649

Much like cubes, workflow possibilities are endless. You could even do the Pf tek, take spore prints to get x more spores from the initial syringe, maybe even clone the fruits or the cakes back to grains and you already got your first round of truffles going! They have to sit longer in fruiting than traditional mushrooms but again, zero maintenance just stash some jars some where

Anyway, as you can see, its got this thick creamy ass growth on top. I knocked some condensation of the lid onto it and it bruised blue, good sign I suppose, and it smells good.

So its probably bacterial, just wondering if scraping a bit of that myc of the top might help get a fruit or two out of it, I have a T1 in the fridge I can work with but it'd be nice to have something to show for lagm before my hiatus

Hey Dalcassian
That looks a lot like one of my first PE tubs. I am not sure what was off about it, but it did eventually produce a decent few flushes. The myc was exhausted before it ever contamed out. So I would hold out hope for it.

I dont' have a picture of the later flushes in the tub. That is the first flush from mss.

Don't forget you can still take spores if it gets contaminated but still fruits  Might be a little extra work on the agar, but I think that's better than nothing

Interesting. One of my shoeboxes is exactly the same. B+ MSS agar to grains.

Just like yours it smells great. But it doesn't look like it's interested in forming primordia anytime soon. While my Mckennaii clones are pinning, this one is chomping up the top layer.

Could be. All my jars were slightly bacterial, but my 3 other shoeboxes are doing great. Those were clones though, this was from a MSS.
