Drying Methodin a Fridge?

after reading most posts and reading in the shroomery pages, would u all agree, that heated drying is a NONO? ... so here is an idea! to keep the potency in and the heat out, make a little spot in yur fridge big enough for a tubberware bowl, and use dessicant to dry for 2 days / 2 nights, would that not be the best besides Dry Ice? ... its cold enough to keep the heat out, yet not cold enough to FREEZE IT.. and if someone has any experience in doing this, wut temps. do u keep yur fridge at?
(just wonderin, cuz ive been dryin mine in a window with sun/cold air, and it just doesnt get the job done correctly)

just use the tupperware but you dont need to put it in the fridge. Heat is bad if you heat it too much over normal temps. Some people say that even 90 degrees or so is ok. I'm not sure what temp psilocybin breaks down at, but if you dry in the microwave or oven or something then obviously you are fucked. Just use the desicant it dries them really fast. I built a drying chamber for under 4 bucks. Drie right is the best, 1.99 for a half gallon at wally world. Get a small tupperware for a few bucks ( I get disposable ones they seal water tight too) and then I use the cross stitch plastic forms (33 cents lol like a super plastic screen) as screens. I use a bottlecap to support the center of it, then glue with hot glue gun around the sides, then glue a nother bottle cat or two on top fo that and use to support next screen. This desing is not reusable but wtf I make 2 of them for 4 bucks or so.

Really bad idea...fan dry 2 days and then use dessicant Doing dessicant drying that way will probably leave you with a black nasty mess

i never use a fan, just throw em in the drying chamber with calcium chloride... takes like 4 days to get brittle but i dont see a problem with that.

I do that every time with just desicant and it works great. I have never gotten a black nasty mess......
If you have a wide even surface area and a shallow container it is even faster. I may even try to add a small fan in the drying chamber I hear it increases the drying by quite a bit.

I've always subscribed to one night air drying before the desicant chamber, or leaving the lid off of the chamber for the first 6 hours

I do not agree. I use a dehydrator that can only go down to 90F. It also goes to 140F. Either way they still come out good. I also boil my mushrooms to make tea. Heat does not affect the alkaloids then either, the length of cooking does not affect strength (unless they are not cooked enough to extract the goodies).
Psilocin is very unstable, and much of it is lost in the drying process anyway (no matter how you do it). Psilocybin however is much more stable, and can store for decades. Take it how you will but lower temperature drying is not a bad idea (just takes too damn long).

Has anyone conducted tests with controls? For example:
1 batch dried with fridge/dessicant method 1 batch dried with fan/dessicant method 1 batch dried with an oven or other heat based method 1 batch fresh from harvest
then extracted psilocybin and compared the relative quantity of interesting chems per g? I've hunted about the net for such tests but not really had much luck. I only ask because the regular "I ate them and they were good!" test, while fun and one I use frequently - doesn't prove anything given the variability of the human condition.
TripleB: I'd encourage you to at least attempt the fridge method and let us know the results. I don't think you'll be able to determine whether it impacted potency, but at least you can tell us if they didn't acquire a host of other unfriendly fungi As long as you're prepared to accept you may lose some perfectly good shrooms.

I put some shrooms in a plastic bellows chamber once and used nitrogen to purge thru it and it made a mess...you need to let them fan dry before using a dessicate unless you have a shitload of dessicate to use... Nitrogen is the dryest element you can use

Can someone please point at a research that shows that Psilocybin breaks down with heat?
Thanx!

What exactly do you mean by this? Any element in its pure form is going to be devoid of moisture and therefore dry.

gotta disagree with ya bro, I never fan dry.. takes a couple of days, and a couple ounces of some 99% pure calcium chloride will dry atleast an ounce of shrooms. So, I buy about 10 lbs of it and it lasts a while.
