even though the seasons over theres still some late fruitings out there sonewhere, but theyre just too few and far between for me to commit the time needed to find them....

I passed by one spot on Tuesday to find a few fruits still pushing up, ill go back in a couple days to see what they’re up to

TWM you should hop on the wood lovers thread (if you’re not already on it) and post pics of your home bed. I’m making a backyard bed too but from clones and spore germinated spawn. Hoping to have azurescens, allenii, & cyanescens side by side by side.

Hey where is that thread?  I can't find it here or in the mushroom cultivation sub forum.

Either way, I managed to harvest enough alleni mycelium to evenly be distributed amongst a very large area of about 8 x 4 feet, using a mulch based on fir, alder, redwood, and a few others that can vary.  But I managed to pretty much spread it evenly and properly for the entire patch to colonize and fruit.  The mycelium is insanely healthy too, so thats a mega bonus - I then covered the patch with a good cover of that same mulch.  In the coming days I am gonna get a solid mix of chipped blackberry bushes and alder wood whole chips and add that on top and mix it gently in to give them the optimal growth environment.  As well, there is ivy and grass sprouting up already in various parts so that will make it prime.

After that, then I'll cover it with cardboard and take all the advice I can get to get it to fruit this year and in the coming years just start popping off!

East bay cyans from last weekend, Feb 13 2021.

And for the A. muscaria, I just slice them and fan-dry them for a few days. I only eat around 4-6 g dry. Pretty strong sedative and can give very vivid (and sometimes lucid) dreams.

It's been so damn relatively warm & dry in my region (central valley) that I don't feel like putting in all the hours and miles of hunting for a fungi that is relatively rare. It was well into the 80s just the other day, humidity down around 30%.

I would love to find them some day! lol...Just when it comes time that they're in season I don't have the "drive" to get out there and hunt for em' since it's always so warm & dry. No doubt there are micro-climates out there that can support them though. If I lived in the bay or closer to the coast I'd be a bit more motivated. I always keep an eye out though when ever I'm out & about around town.

After skimming over some of the reports of ovoids on MO, it seems like March is when they're found the most in Cali.

Good bye to the winter that never happened :nonono:  . This "winter" was depressing AF.

🤣

Stopped by my patches. They are all dry no fruits. Mycelium is doing well still, but there was no sign of fruiting. Like Openmind said, it’s been so dry the last two seasons here I would be really surprised to find anything south of Salinas

Ovoids while beautiful, rare, and fun to find, are not that potent imo. I’ve had many experiences on them and fully love their unique feel. The waves of body euphoria are unique to this species. All in all they have a relatively low potency when compared to a species like cubensis.

I’ll still keep my eyes peeled every patch of landscaped woodchips I see

Good luck out there fam

You probably just had some weak ovoids. Of the two phenos I see the bell capped ones are much more potent and can pack quite a punch. They’re no cyan or azure but definitely more potent than cubensis. I do know what you mean about them being very mild sometimes. The other chunkier pheno and patches that have depleted resources tend to be very mild ime.
