My first attempt with Lion's Mane on Master's mix. Just started growing on Friday, and this morning they're starting to get toothy:

Those look pretty big. They need more air though, I had the same problem. They like more air than anything else I’ve grown except maybe oysters.
Speaking of, my first ever oysters are about done I think.

I didn’t do it right and forgot to fold the bag up so I got a lot of choked out pins in the bag.
This is a contaminated plate that’s doing something weird, it looks like the myc was eaten or something near the top. Anybody know what that’s from?

Thank you! Should I take them out of the tent for a few hours a day, or just do more FAE for the whole tent on a daily basis? Since I have different species in the tent right now, I'm trying to average the RH and amount of FAE I give the entire tent.
Took the mycelium forever to consolidate on the master's mix, but once it did BOOM...off to the races we go.
Thanks again for the tip for giving them more air!

That's mites dude. Often a Tyrophagus. They eat fungi. They'll chomp right through parafilm or thin cling wrap.
Very common and often the unseen cause of various contamination.
If you have a microscope or even a strong magnifying glass you should be able to spot them.

i thought it was Mycoparasitism(when fungi eat other fungi) like Trichoderma produces enzymes such as chitinases which degrade the cell walls of other fungi or Bacterial mycophagy the ability of some bacteria to "grow at the expense of living fungal hyphae". add some neomycin sulfate + excipient for cure
that is scary as hell, dude how you kill tics on cultures?
they donot teach that in tek not in tek wtf

I hate mites, used to battle them with my fruit fly and springtail cultures. Those and winter grain mites in my canna grows shortly after they would harvest the cornfields behind me. Whole house would be red with them outside.

They are very common in bio labs that have a lot of cultures going for long periods. They are found on all continents and in most places humans inhabit including earth orbit modules (spacecraft). They are found in almost all places and eat a wide variety of things from nematodes to fungi to algae and plants as well as other decaying stuff. They are very adaptable. There is a lot of info out there.
Those mites are majorly halted by cold temps and can be killed completely by being submerged under water. The problem is like most "animals" they carry with them a complete biome. They spread all sorts of bacteria and mold and other things. I'm sure they are capable of spreading mycoviruses and other systemic issues.
If you need to save a culture with mites, just take a wedge and put it in a vial of sterile water in the fridge for a couple weeks. You should be able to pull the wedge out and make a mite free transfer.
It is also advisable to find a new storage area for cultures for a few weeks. Carefully look through all your plates and quarantine them for a couple weeks to see if more show up. Adding an extra wrap of film seems to prevent spread from one plate to another.
They can be pesky but you can get rid of them without having to start all over from scratch.
Most critters like that can sense pheromones from a long way away and will travel great distances to get to the source. Not the same thing at all but for example, small hive beetles can detect a single molecule of bee pheromone from miles away (antennae are awesome!) without even coming into physical contact with it (they sense the frequency emitted by the molecule). They follow them like a dot to dot till they find the hive.
