Growing on side of casing!!! Help me!! <pics>
    #2723062 - 05/24/04 03:47 PM (13 years, 5 days ago)

Ok I recently birthed 5 casings and I have 4 more to go. These new ones just started pinning on the sides. I Saw there are quite a few pins so I cut the sides off. I'm not sure what causes this as the cat pans I am using are very opaque.

Heres some pics:

This is one of the other casings:

None of the others are doing this and I recently wrapped the bottoms and sides of all of them with tin foil......... Anybody know what causes this?

Having them in a trasparent container may cause this. Also could happen when the top of the casing is not moist enough and pins form on the sides between the substrate and the container where there is higher humidity.

If you birthed a casing and it is upside down, you have now created a flat cake which in many cases can get very nice flushes!

The containers are opaque = not see through guys....

But I will use tin foil from now on anyways. Also they are not extremely sturdy. I think I will replace them with something that doesnt flex next time........... What do you guys think? The size is so perfect for my terrarium though.... Goddammit! hehe..... Another idea is to pack down the casing material more so that it stays on the sides and doesnt allow the room for the side pinning.

However it looks like a really good flush if you look at the side. I think there are many really good pins. The whole thing is pinning. I figured by taking the sides off I can just let it grow where it wants to.......... There were too many good pins to take them off, and other wise it would have been a real pain to check on the all the time. I think there are over 30 pins at least on that one casing...
