Oh so slow colonization
    #2722299 - 05/24/04 12:55 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

I incubated 12 jars 2 weeks ago with 3 different strains (B+, KS, and Tapapla). As of right now, only 3 are partially colonized. The others show no visible sign of germination. I've put them all upside down and they have been in an incubator at ~82f. I'm a newb at this mushroom growing stuff, but I did everything according to the PFtek tutorials. Any ideas on why they're not smokin along like everybody elses? any help would be appreciated

did you mix the strains in the jars? where did you get the spores? old spores? 2 weeks is too long, i get full colonization in 2 weeks.

Heh no, I didn't mix the strains, and they're from the Sporelab (which I asked the same question, just looking for more opinions on what to do).

Well i am glad to reply to your first out going post!  Is there air spaces throughout the verm, one of my first times i had put the verm in the jars and it was to wet so it all stuck together and took a damn long time to move the myc around!  It might have been a pretty crappy syringe but i have never had a clear syringe before!

When I made the jars, I made sure not to pack anything down, and the substrate wasn't made too too wet. The syringes had\have alot of clumping. btw, I did another 6 jars 4 - 5 days ago which as of yet, show no signs either :\ I still have alot of spore solution left, should I use it for doing another kind of tek to see if that will work?

It sounds to me like an air exchange problem or maybe an overly wet substrate
Have you pierced holes in the lids of the jars? Are they tapped over? if so remove the tape. Did you shake the syringe, how much solution did you use per jar?

Personally, the substrate doesn't look over saturated, if I had a cam I'd post pics. No tape over syringe holes, shook syringes when inaculated, and used ~1ml per jar

You might want to up your temp to the optimum incubation temp. From what I read at first about the clumping I figured there may had been an uneven spore dispersal, but since you shook the syringes before hand that shouldn't be the case. Can you see any visible difference or do you note anything different that you've done with the three jars showing partial colonization as opposed to how the other jars were treated?
