I’ve run a ton of bacterial spawn, ime if the jar still colonizes all the way it’ll usually flush good at least once.
If trich shows up I’d toss it but some of the other molds are slower. You can cover them in salt or a wet paper towel to keep the spores from spreading.
But like he said mold in the room isn’t that big of a deal for the most part.

Also, soaking the spot in iso can really slow down the trich. The really are no cures but a variety of ways to try and slow it.

noob here, i am trying to make low nutrient agar and long story short i have only petri dishes 60x15mm and can not make liter also very low on supply thankyou covid-19, can not get malt extract in my country, its just potato flakes and dextrose
this agar recipe
water 200ml agar agar 2.5g dextrose 0.5 potato flakes 1g @11 psi 20 minutes more than 20 minutes, its over cook black mess
no food coloring either mycelium keeps eating that too.
will it work?
all my cultures are thin wispy mycelium or way too thick kind a bacterial
also old recipe i was using
water 200ml agar agar 5g dextrose 2.5g potato flakes 3g @11 psi 20 minutes

I've had better success covering mold splotches than salting or performing surgery. I'm never trying to keep the sporulating tub around for long so briefly locking spores in place is optimal for me.
I've used petri dish lids, PP5 pints, Pasty Plates, etc. My favorite is cutting a pop bottle in half and twisting it into the sub. Spores are contained quickly. No mess, no stress.

I've had decent luck pulling that bottle back out with the infected puck. Slows it, sometimes removes it entirely.

Say, When one starts to have some pretty clean spawn and low bacterial growth... how important is ridding the condensation pools that form at the edge of ones monotubs? Can you let a little bit slide, or should you keep after it? (not using liners)

Yeah logistically running a couple mini monos is a lot different than running 50 66 quart monos. One scenario you have time to hover and baby, in the other you do not.

I might be going too far with two questions in a day...
What is the working understanding as to why larger spawn bags require drier grain prep than a quart jar?

Personally I find that in bags overhydrated grain is more likely to burst given such big volumes but, the real reason I want my grain a touch drier in bags is because I like to use generous amounts of LC to inoculate. A slightly drier grain prep helps absorb the quantities of LC that I like to use.

That makes sense. I'm realizing now that I've been prepping a tad bit too moist, on the exterior of the kernel. I'm drying them more and having much much less bacterial looking bags.
but still... seems odd... 10cc lc to a jar might be 50cc's to a bag, if you just scaled up, you know?

Yep. I've done as much as 160 cc to a 1 gallon bag, if I recall correctly. Somewhere around there.

Hi all,
I have not yet succeeded in growing cubes in a monotub, but hope to change that soon using CVG in 12 quart mini monotubs. I plan to spawn 2 quart jars wild-bird-seed colonized with mycelium and 2 quart jars CVG in each tub.
Today, March 5th, I have 21 Ball jars half to 2/3 full of WBS in my inoculation chamber. I inoculated them with agar dishes on three different dates. The temperature inside the inoculation chamber is 76 degF. It is two tub-in-tub plastic Sterilite bins w/ a 300W aquarium water heater between the two box bottoms. I keep the jars in the box in because I let the room temperature drop into the 60's at night. The jar lids are either plastic or metal (5 metal, 16 plastic. The plastic lids all have a quarter inch hole with a tyvek patch on the bottom. 3 of the metal lids have 4 1/8" holes in the metal lid. 2 of the metal lids have 2 3/8" holes in the metal lid. All the metal lids have a tyvek filter disk. The 21 jars are in three batches.
Batch 1 has 5 quart jars inoculated on Feb 3rd I shook all 5 jars on Feb 10th 3 jars have thick white mycelium on top (1/2 inch to 1 inch thick, but none deeper below surface than 1 inch In other words, none of the bird seed below 1 inch from the surface has colonized.
Batch 2 has 10 quart jars inoculated on Feb. 20th
9 jars are 100% colonized 1 jar is 95 % colonized I did not shake any of these jars yet. (I marked which jars received the #1 fastest mycelium to reach the edge of the petri dish and the #2 second place mycelium.)
Batch 3 has six jars, 2 quart jars and 4 pint jars All six have wispy white mycellium, but none is fully colonized yet. I did not shake any of these jars yet.
I made all the grain jars using Spitball Jedi's WBS tek at https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20048754#20048754 except for 3 jars in Batch 2 for which I used Willy Myco's WBS tek.
No discoloration or mold is visible in any of the jars.
1. What should I do with the Batch 1 jars, since the mycelium in them seems to have stopped descending into the WBS ? It is all growing on top instead.
2. The Batch 2 jars seem to be ready to spawn to substrate. However, I did not shake any of them. Should I just shake them just when I spawn them to substrate since they are all fully colonized except for one ?
Anything else I should know or do ? I am anxious to fruit this mycelium, but I don't want to blow it.
Thank you for reading this.

Do you have a thread going with pics? That helps.
Without seeing anything, I'd say shake anything over 30 percent colonized but not finished and let them finish up. If there are problems, the shake can often reveal them.
The ones that are finished can be shaken and spawned to bulk. Never spawn anything to bulk until it is 1000000000000% colonized.

verum subsequentis, thank you for your comments. I don't yet have a camera and am not comfortable sending unencrypted photographs over my wireless carrier's network.
Seeing that all the mycelium in the Batch 1 jars seemed to have avoided the grain in the jar, I will dump these jars into the compost pile in another week when the weather warms. I am not sure what lesson I should learn from this other than to NOT shake the jars?
All the Batch 2 jars are fully colonized except for one jar that has a patch 2 inches long by 1.5 inches wide that appears untouched by mycelium. Am guessing this might be a dry patch. I will scrap this jar too.
That leaves me with 9 fully colonized quarts. I will turn these into mini-monotubs using 2 quarts grain mixed into 2 quarts pasteurized CVG per monotub.
I will also try G2G in order to keep the mycelium from these jars going. I will also be vigilant to keep these samples of this healthy mycelium alive on agar. I am not sure how to handle all of this at once, now that all my grain jars are full.

Getting more jars.... We've all run into that "problem". Again, without pics I can't really help you. Dumping the jars may be premature. There is nothing wrong with shaking. I'd highly advise you shake them and watch what happens. If the jars are too dry, you'll just see the myc stop. If there are lurking contams, the shake will reveal them.

Okay, then I'll shake the jars with mycelium only on top one more time and see what happens. Thank you, verum subsequentis. I just read boatloaf's slant tek and already have slant tubes, so that will be next on my agenda once I make sure that I keep the good mycelium going on agar.
