First time grower, worried about possible contamination
    #27221610 - 02/23/21 05:55 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

I have recently bought my first grow kit and this is the state after 10 days. There is white fluff all over the place. Should I be worried about this?

I read the post about identifying contamination and it seems it might be Aspergillus.

That just looks like healthy mycelium and primordia forming, there's a developing mushroom as well.

I'm really relieved to hear that. I have no experience yet with growing my own, so of course I am really worried if I am doing anything wrong.

Also a quick side question if you allow me: How much light should I give my mushrooms? I know no direct sunlight, but should I keep it in indirect light or do they prefer being in the dark?

the fuzz on the mushroom seems concerning to me are you allowing fresh air exchange? mushrooms breath oxygen and release carbon dioxide (just like their human cousins) if theres no air exchange they will suffocate usually this looks like mycelium is "reaching for the sky" if you know fresh air is getting in the chamber than disregard that and next time you will have alot more success if you shy away from kits and follow some of the bullet proof teks here on the shroomery I personally love fruiting in mono tubs and use hard red spring wheat grain jars it's easier to find then rye grain where I live. Also if you get into agar youl have a blast trust me!

There is a plastic bag around them with lots and lots of tiny perforations for air exchange. They're next to the window as well, and I open the window three times a day to let fresh air in.

Is that okay? Should I do anything differently?

they only use light to know what direction to grow in also they can use only one intensity/spectrum as a matter of fact most lights can throw your parameters outta whack as they do produce heat even low powered LEDs

Thank you a lot.

As for light, I will keep it next to the window, as it has 23°C there and it seems to work fine so far.

As for using grow kits, yes, I should probably start learning how to do it myself, but it seems like quite a big investment to buy all the stuff I need, and I'm not 100% sure I understand everything in the guides posted here.

Definitely need to up the fae to avoid the mycelium climbing the mushroom like that.
Chances are the small holes are not enough to allow decent air flow so opening the window may not even help.

It's what I thought at first but I dont see any of the tell tale reaching mycelium patches that's common for that issue it's just on the pin I've seen my aborts being consumed by mycelium before so the pin might've aborted for what ever reason and now the mycelium is reclaiming it keep it going for awhile I'm hoping a new pin set comes for OP

edit: changed them to OP

Don't panic, I would consider opening the bag and giving it a fan a couple times a day and continue to mist.

Don't over think it, just continue and you'll probably be surprised by the results.

So, I've opened the bag and let some fresh air in. The smell was weird at first, but then very mushroom-y. I suppose that's a good sign?

Also the growkit specified that I shouldn't spray it. Should I adhere to those instructions or spray the inside of the bag anyways?

I wouldn't spray the kit directly. Just let it ride.

What about the bag? Should I open it a few times a day to let fresh air in or poke some more holes in instead?

Does the bag have a lot of holes? Got a picture of the bag?

Here is a picture, I hope it comes across well

here are three "strips" of perforations just like this going across the whole length of the bag.
