How do you fruit Turkey Tails?
    #27220610 - 02/22/21 06:14 PM (3 days, 20 hours ago)

Hi fam,

I would like to get some advice on fruiting my Turkey Tails block.

After the block is fully colonised, I cut open one side of the bag (as shown in the photos) then put it in a tub, fanning and misting a couple of times a day. (The other block in the photo is Lion's Mane)

I'm just wondering if this is the right way to fruit Turkey Tails. Am I missing anything? Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers,

next time wait till it looks like its forming primordia then can slit right at the primordia esp cause its slower growing and if dont have a proper fruiting chamber may be a little tuffer. either way let us know how it goes! i think because turkey tail takes so long i think alot of people actually use plug spawn into logs so can grow outside and less work.. just a thought

may want to open up a couple of those poly filled holes or make them super light to give a bit more air flow and/or make sure give good fannings. seems like the lionsmain go little pink when not enough air but def doesnt look to bad!

keep us posted!

Yeah if you open it up like that before there's primordia it may way to start fruits elsewhere in the bag where it's more moist.

Next time try making small x's in the bag so it doesn't dry them out and they should fruit out those.

TT will also fruit fine from buckets just like oysters.

Colonized as fast as oysters, took a little longer for the fruits to start forming and they're much slower growing but not that long at all.  Don't remember exactly, I just threw it outside and it grew there.

Great bucket so strange looking

I wonder if reishi would work like that too?

Reishi is pretty much unstoppable. I'm sure it would do fine fruiting from a bucket as long as the conditions are right.

Thank you so much for the advice, everyone! I'll make sure to apply them to the next grow. For now, I'll hope for the best
