old syringages=slow germination=bad yields?
    #2721618 - 05/24/04 03:55 AM (19 years, 10 months ago)

I had talked about the jars taking forever to germinate. I gave up after 6 days of no growth, made brand new syringes from fresh spore prints and wow just 3 days my other jars already show mycellum in several places and going on strong! while the 6 jars still show no growth! There are 5 cakes, one didnt even pin, the other 4 have poor yields. the biggest cake has like 30 pins but the shrooms are looking to be very tiny, perhaps 1.5 inches?

He wants to know if old spores can be responsible for poor total yields.

well there can be a lot of reasons why your jars wont germinate. old spores may be one of them or may not. any answer would be a guess anyways.

I did get some jars to germinate but barely, had to reinocculate a couple jars again to make em germinate. also the real question is: are old spores responsable for poor yields of shrooms? my first flush got me 20 grams off 4 cakes, I should be getting more than that off one cake. and only 3 cakes are doing their 2nd flush and it looks like ill get another 20g and the shrooms are so tiny

I'm sure they could have an impact on yield, but there are so many other things involved that you cant really say for sure thats the problem.

But yes ,I assume the fresher the Better.

whole wheat flour, but I never had problems with that before. I noticed a whole bunch of tiny pins, like 30 on the half pint cake now. I can tell there gonna be tiny shrooms by the thickness of the pins. has anyone had old syringes with the problems mentioned

im having germination problems too but, i cant get anything but very vague answers. or they cop out of answering by saying "it could be alot of things", but they wont elaborate on what any of those "alot of things" are. it seems like if people didnt have an answers they would nt even post here ya know! i dont think there's a grower here talented or experienced enough to answer the question honestly. im now trying a LC with some spores from the print. Ive had alot of luck in the past with LC`s when i got stubborn spores. try a Liquid Culture Tek man, you`ll probably get them to germinate that way, then you just inject "mycellium water" into your substrate. dont post and ask how to make a LC, you`ll just get dumb ass vague answer`s like "there`s lots of ways" or "you make a LC using spores". look it up in the archives- they`re all about the same and all work reasonably the same. i think you`ll have luck this way and, a LC can last for years if taken care of and stored correctly. sending good vibes your way!!!!
