Alternatives to Bell/Kerr Mason Jars.

Here in Europe it can be difficult to get hold of the 32oz Bell Mason jars. SO I have been researching into some alternatives.
I have come across jars and wonder if they would be suitable.
https://www.glas-shop.com/glasprodukte/weck-einmachglaeser/weck-mit-silikondeckeln/1000ml-sturzglas-weck-rr100-mit-silikondeckel-weis.php
The lids are made of silicone and I was thinking of cutting a hole in the silicone and then putting a SFD between the jar and the lid to allow for FAE/GE.
The problem here is that a lot of the jars come with metal lids that once you drill FAE holes, the lids can start to rust and deteriorate. Plastic lids would be perfect but hey are also hard to find.
If someone knows of a place to get decent size jars with the right lids that would be great.
Many thanks

You might be able to source Kilner brand jars.
I get mine from Dunelm.

It doesn't look like those lids are threaded on, so they could easily pop off while handling. I would look for jars that have threaded caps. You could try repurposing jars of sauce or preserve...

You may want to bite the bullet and pay for international shipping of jars.

Why glass jars of sauce from the grocery are significantly cheaper even if you just dump out the sauce.

The issue with those are the lids. Need to get ones that have the right size lids and made of plastic that can go in the PC.
You would have thought there were suppliers of these things somewhere in Europe.

True, the lids are not threaded. I was thinking of slicking them on with micropore tape at the junction between the glass and the silicone, to ensure they stay in place.

U may have to get creative with those metal-lid jars. One way to prevent rusting is to use a metal-drilling bit and drill slowly and carefully to make a clean hole. Also, buy some hi-temp silicone and seal the drilled hole to prevent rusting.

Jars come with the correct side metal lids from the grocery store. You don't want plastic lids

Why don't I want plastic lids?
I have used wide mouth honey jars and they come with a plastic lid. The thing is the jars are not big enough.
regarding the high temp silicone....I was making some lids for my LC jars and I use that for those. I drill two holes, one for FAE/GE and a smaller one to use as a self healing port. The latter is filed with high temp silicone.

In response to biting the bullet an paying for int'l shipping...
No I'm not doing that unless I really have to. It is ridiculous at the moment. More than doubles the price.
This is not exactly a complex problem that I am trying to solve here. Large, wide mouth glass jars with a lid that will not rust. I mean Europe is not exactly 100s of years behind the US.....

Also if you want more peace of mind with glass sauce jars from the store you could always cut a few small rolls of plastic wrap (glad, saran, whatever) and wrap the lid and rim of jar like many do with petri plates. Not sure how long the threads of a sauce jar stand up to multiple PC cycles but this may prolong their usage. So strange that Euro doesnt have mason jars. Are Europeans not supposed to can food? No bits of self sufficiency for you, at least in the canning aspect.

Yea, it is strange that mason jars are not easily available here. We have Weck jars that can be used for preserving. But the have glass lids that are held in place by a metal clip and a silicone seal.
Those would be fine except for fact that we need to have holes in the lid for FAE/GE. And glass is not an easy material to drill into !!!!
The jars above in my link come with silicone lids and I am wondering if I can cut a hole int eh silicone and put a SFD underneath it. That might solve things.

A work around with the weck jars could be to have lids made of plastic that can be clipped on. That way it would be possible to drill holes in the plastic which can be covered with SFDs.
Think it means using the Google machine a bit more.

we do have mason jars but canning is definitely not common here.
if you insist on wide mouth then import some, the ones you shared in your first post are 6 eur each, you can get 12 bell jars and shipping for similar to that from the US.
