DIY Humidifier * 1
    #27215201 - 02/19/21 04:31 PM (2 years, 11 months ago)

I basically slapped this thing together with materials I could reach without getting up from my seat lol. I'm at a friend's house trying to save his sad houseplants and just so happened to have an ultrasonic disc head in my backpack (it's the main component in a humidifier, basically a lil speaker that vibrates water into vapor.

This is the disc head glued to a floating device, in this case two ping pong balls and two sticks and some tape and wire, it's so ugly that it becomes cute. But when you see it in action it becomes even handsome. But anyway here's the ugly duckling.

Every humidifier I've seen, commercial or DIY has the disc head fixed permanently inside the Water tank and this design results in either it has to have a Water pump and be connected to a water source at all times or it needs to be refilled fairly often when run on the highest setting, and it's because the disc heae needs to be submerged at a specific depth at all times to be able to operate correctly. But by floating the disc head itself you can practically drop it into any kind of water source of any size and It will always run perfectly. This is the ugly duckling in the ugly pond.

If you though the duckling was ugly then behold this monstrosity. It's basically Frankenstain simply because the disc head runs on 24V and the tiny computer fan that I'll use to push the vapor out runs on 5V. But connecting a 5v and a 24v adapter to one another is marginally harder than tying shoes. And don't look directly at the monster you don't want to puke on your phone or computer.

At this point you've noticed that the pond itself isn't a masterpiece either, but hey, it pushes out more vapor than my two commercial humidifiers combined which cost around 80usd esch and it lasts twice as long. And of course it costs like 1/10th or 1/8th of what one of the commercial ones costs how cool is that? I'll be doing a giveaway as soon as the boat from China reaches Norway lol I ordered like a ton of those cheap

Pretty clever. My lazy ass would just spend the money on a humidifier though.

That's very true. This one is more intended to show how easy it is to make own if you for example want to humidify 5 or 6 rooms and don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on 6 humidifiers. Or if you want to have a humidifier that can go for weeks, just place this ping pong speaker in something very big. But it's true tho this Tek probably isn't for the masses but I imagine some might find it useful, it's extremely portable and saves money if you need to humidify many places

That's true, if you want to take a giant tub and not worry about it constantly.

Can also be connected to car battery and run for days if you're running some really really stealthy operation where there's no electric outlets or whatever. The commercial ones are hard to clean as well, you'll never really be able to fully remove all the minerals and shit from those but this thing here is like it doesn't even collect minerals cause you're not constantly pouring more and more water in it. A 10L bucket will humidify for like day and a half, insanely easy to keep clean if you're someone thats dependent on humidify ING but hate to clean them all the time or whatever. :bongload:
