Well first I rushed on a boil of oats, don’t think they fully plumped up (cooked). Then I cut the purge short on the pc cycle. Did a full 2hrs at 15psi, but probably had some cool air pockets trapped from the shortened purge. So my thought is unsterile grain. Because I use a SAB, I keep plates around after transfers to see if they grow anything funky. All were fine, not that it’s a guarantee, but it helps ease my mind. Then I ran across This checklist for spawn and was like fuuuuuuck. My past couple grows were first attempts at APE so I figured slow...normal right? Smell like mushrooms, good sign right? But they never fully colonized the sub. Long story long, I think I’ve got it narrowed down to shortcuts during grain prep

So I have a bad track record of taking notes and posting updates, so i guess a growalong with my mental health the way it's been wasn't the best idea.
But, here's some of what I've been doing in the name of LAGM 2021 this will be cross-posted with my entry post
In the future I hope to be better about keeping pictures and descriptions together All my plates have a color coded label on them Green =EnvySS Blue=APE Yellow=RW
I got a little ahead of myself and inoculated 3 plates with EnvySS(green) on like december 20something I think it was, didn't date anything. the t1 transfer was taken on 12/31
January 1st 3 Am 3 with a APE syringe and another 3 got a loopful of Rustywhyte spores.
only one of the nine germinated, thankfully it was the envyss as it was the only swab I had, it gave me germ plate clones pretty fuckin quick. I kept transferring it while working on getting the rest on agar, took it to a half pint and a couple quarts, I spawned the quarts and they are about to blow up with pins, and I used the half pint to inoculate 6 quarts, a half pint and I spawned a couple half pint coir cakes.
the other varieties I ended up taking to BRF pucks, only the RW germinated and it was already the 25th so I decided to take a cut from my APE Slant. count it or don't I don't really care, technically they all broke atleast one rule.
after a transfer of the ESS and the APE I took some of the RW to agar. now I finally have all 3 on agar and they are looking great.

I've seen some of these images of you guys saying a plate was ready with what looked to me like barely enough myc to cover a quarter. I know that you know what you're doing, and I understand that's enough, just wondering why you don't wait a few more days for more?
You are correct and I am a newb, myself. So nothing I say is gospel, just what seems to work for me so far.
I will prep grain tomorrow, but probably will not use it until Saturday. So it will get a bit bigger. I also need to prep some more dishes, needles and some LC broth.
Also, these are 100 mm plates, so maybe these look smaller than they are. All of those pictures are of myc that is larger that a silver dollar. I try not to let them get too close to the sides because there is a bit more danger of picking up contams on the edges.
And I have found that when the myc is good and clean, it doesn't take long to colonize the jar even with a small-ish amount of myc. The first time I sent agar to grain, I didn't realize that most people use at least a quarter of a dish, so I only used a small wedge for each jar. Since then I have not found a big difference in colonization time with larger and smaller wedges. Maybe a day or two. I do like to roll my jars to spread the myc early on, though. Not a vigorous shake, but just making sure that the wedge does touch as much grain as possible as it moves around.
This is what makes LAGM so great. You get to see what lots of people are doing and what works and what doesn't for them. I could just repeat what worked last time or exactly what is in the TEKs. But after a few successes, I am just making small changes here and there and seeing what works. If I stumble on something remarkable I hope to contribute a TEK of my own some day.

I've been a bit shit with this to be fair but I've nearly got 5 spawnable quarts for my cube(NST) grow

My pans are killing me, I'm running 2 cultures but they are so slow on grains, jars keep stalling or just not taking off its frustrating. This is typical of the cultures im using
Must've nocc'd 8 quarts since Xmas and none of them have gone to bulk

Anyone remember the unit cirlce and lessons about arcs? The further away from the inoculation point on an agar dish provides a slimmer genetic pool the further it grows out. By putting a clean wedge to grain and moving forward to see what fruits can be produced, a mycologist can then start picking clones and other cultures they want to run.
I wrote a bunch of bullshit about that in the link in my sig.

Millet jars chugging along. I shook once 3 days ago and gave them another light shake today. The condensation makes me fret but I'm pretty sure it's just from temperature. There's really no good insulated place in my house to keep them. How they looking?

Gonna set up the SAB soon and make some overdue transfers. The germ plates also pinned so gonna clone those little guys. Stay tuned for more pics

Log update:

First chicon tray is doing well. Some fruits starting to sporulate and I will begin to harvest sometime this weekend probably. I borrowed a better camera to take some photos, I don't know shit about taking photos but they're better than what I do with a phone.
Meanwhile
The second chicon tray initially kept in the greenhouse aint doin so hot. Hopefully jcm's pan chamber is able to get it pinning better.

So I’m gonna try and sit down at some point and update my grow log, but I had some not as well as I’d have liked growth on my only PE plates that made it. I poked one and made LC, and took another to grains for shits and giggles.....but I have been getting fruits out of my huatla that I’m taking for a test drive tonight!

Those chicon look beautiful!!
They look just like the tamps/atl#7 I've seen. still trying to figure out if chicon is just a variety of tamps? or if they are another closely related mexicana species. Some of the reaally old pics of chicon nindo look totally different than tamps, but recently everything seems too look the same.

Thanks! I was told they were mexicana but you're right they do look like tampanensis. I believe mex and tamps are two different but very closely related species? Not sure if the two can be differentiated macroscopically or if microscopy or dna analysis is required to separate the two.
Here's another grow of supposedly chicon nindo that look similar: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21984642

Pretty sure I rescued my Syzygy plates.

Could still be some mold meshed in, but I'm probably gonna run these if they stay sexy.
Edit: 3 transfers away***
