this is costing me WAY too much money
    #2721346 - 05/24/04 01:29 AM (19 years, 10 months ago)

Just a post to bitch about what I have been paying... I really did not expect to spend more than $50-75 when I started this little project of mine, but everything just started adding up. I did not want to half ass anything, so I bought nice stuff... I think my first grow is going to cost me about $200.

I spent $60 on a PCer, $15 on a coffee grinder, $15 on rubermades, $20 fish heater, $20 for 24 jars, $20 on a syringe, plus $50+ on rice, vermiculite, coir, perlite, and other crap...

No real reason to post this... just getting it off my shoulders

Yeah I hear ya. I spent a little more than $50 first time around. Then it got under my skin and I quickly wanted to go BIGGER. The most expensive thing was the 22 quart PC, but well worth it.

Have patience. It will all be more than worth it soon. Since you are dedicated and have made wise investments you will most likely have better luck than those that do half-ass it. The experiences you will have will be priceless.

I spent over $400 on my first grow. Of course I also produced 8 dry ounce the first time, but damn did I overkill things. Start simple if you can. When I look back on it I could have done it for $50.

you think thats expensive? everything is reusable except brf, verm and perlite(waste of time to reuse) this works out to 50 cents per half pint jar for an average of 70 wet grams!

I don't know how many wet grams makes how many dry grams, but it seems like if you pay $50 for an end result of like 60 wet grams, doesn't that only make like less than 10 dry grams?  I can get 3.5 grams of shrooms on the street for $15.  The only thing is that these things are reusable and such *yeah!*.  I personally could care less about money.  I would not really want to sell much (unless I get something like the 8oz dry), but instead I just want to be able to grow mushrooms and then have an experience with friends

we spent over 600 bucks in our first investment, and that was NOTHING compared to what we get now! We made our investment plus triple, and still on first flush!

You didnt need the PC, its a waste of money, I havent used PC and havent got even 1 jar contaminated.
The bottom line is PC is a waste of money, I suggest you return it while you can.

Unless of course you move on to grains.

yea... I definately plan to move to grains soon. And I did purchase enough verm, perlite, coil, rice, etc to last a WHILE... I guess it will be worth it in the end, but as for now it is a money pit

I know EXACTLY how you feel.  I went to walmart and spent 125, when i only expected to spend 80 at the most.  I also still need verm, brown rice, geolite or lava rocks, and some other misc. shit.  (5 of that 125 was for a few weeks of ramen since i spent all my grocery money, lol)  I also need to find a way to get spores here in CA.  Im so psyched though... and I know that one good grow will pay off everything
