Crazy this topic was created only a couple years after I was born, and here I am bumping it. I'm in the Columbia area and just found some actives today in a field, it's been raining all week. Not too sure if anybody is still in the area but would love to get something going again.

yeah this is really old but has been really helpful. I'm in the Greenville area as well and have been looking around for some fields locally. Just trying to find an easy one on google maps near me. I found one but its next to a busy road and the last thing i want is the feds coming after me. I'm assuming its the season to get some and it just got done raining yesterday. I just hope its not too late.

Just went to a local cow farm 20 mins away from home and didn't find a single thing. so instead i got 2 grocery bags filled with cow poop to use as substrate. Id rather not go to a farm frequently because I don't wanna get caught and I would encourage others to do the same if they are going to go to a farm anyways. Just take some dung home and add vermiculite to use as substrate or to jizz a spore syringe on. got some spore prints of GT's id already had and just used a spray bottle to spray it on some cow dung and layed it outside. gonna save the rest for substrate.

Trying to find my first batch in the Upstate area (Spartanburg) but don't really want to go trespassing or trudging through cow fields. Any one have any luck with finding saprotrophic species in the state parks or woods around here?
I already have some pretty good foraging spots where I regularly find various Amanita species, boletes, chanterelles, reishi, turkey tail and more. Am currently learning about Gymnopilus mushrooms and would love to be able to find some of these growing in my usual spots.
Anyone have any luck up here finding anything other than dung-growing cubes?
