Do you lake kayak or real river kayak. An intermediary for the river for a beginner not ttrying to unload a wad is perception brand. I have had 2 sun dolphins also in the past and have really enjoyed them on the lake but they were not flat bottomed and I was just learning as you have. I loved em for what they were lake yaks. Ymmv

We kayak both lakes and rivers. I’m like 2 blocks from the Mississippi right now, (we did over 15 miles on it last year) And there is over 500 lakes in a 50 miles radius of me, we must have done over 2 dozen last year.

Nice! Yeah I bet the miss would be fun jus pick a stretch and wear it out! I also enjoy lake kayaking for the ease simplicity and relaxation of it. Take a few joints out.. post up in the middle of the lake and pass it with your partner.. just fun

I’m blessed to live where I do. I’m also about 10 miles from miles of abandon pit mines that are now deep trout lakes, the state has been building mountains biking trails all over it for about 10 years, I guess it’s one of the top mountain biking destinations in the USA right now.

Did some sea kayaking, valley avocet kayak. Get some good weather, a few folk and head out. Good times. 2 or 3 days with camping and go round some islands. Magical seeing sun on the water and different perspective.

My advice is to look around and save up to get the kayak that you want. In the past I've settled for what I could afford only to be in a less than comfortable rig that I ended up selling for a loss in order to get a better kayak. Cheap kayaks are not fun to sit in all day, they don't track well, and most of them aren't all that stable.
My outfit costs $3000+ new and it has everything that I need in order to comfortably fish all day, but it sounds like your needs are different than mine. If you don't mind buying used you can find really nice rigs on facebook and craigslist for $500 to $1000.

I kayak river, lake and sea. I also take it out on the local canals too .
I'm UK based and use a Dagger Stratos, it's an amazing allrounder, perhaps not one for heavy white water (although I've seen YouTube vids of people doing this...)
It's got a nice amount of storage space, and I'm planning some overnighters with wild camping this year.

I'd love to get a kayak for much longer river trips, oh and a packraft also for some of the remote seasonal rivers. I use a paddleboard to do 2-3 day river trips. It is a lot of fun on low consequence white water, but it is very limiting. Rivers in my area are low volume for most of the year, and the paddleboard keeps you quite engaged on rivers that a kayak would eat up no problem.
