>Right now they are drying and are beginning to smell like piss for some reason

That's just how subbs smell when you dry them out. I've got a cigarette tin that smells like 100% piss, but it's full of Pan subbs.

Hey Gumby, sorry to ask this here but since you brought it up you got me wondering...
You say you have a ciggerette filled with pan subbs? how does smoking mushrooms work? Does it work the same way as eating them, or is it more like a stoning effect. And could you smoke cubes the same way? thanks!
(nice find Nycomyco!)

Just a briefer- it sucks bad and hurts your throat to smoke. Tastes ok though- swear to god I got a weird high from cubes in a pipe before. But it was on a tiny bit of weed- but still...

ay ya ya sheez ......... any ways I think the sun on older specimens fades the caps quite a bit. I found a heeping shirt full the other day. Drierd them out on a screen and boom while I was at work out comes the rain so my first haul of the season washed away. Oh well.

ive read lots on smoking shrooms but am not convinced either way?? anyway if YOU wannna try it i would suggest definitely smokin em out of a bong, as the water cuts out the harsh burn and taste. or so ive heard.

After taking a look through historic subb posts, I've noticed that the base of the stem where it comes out of the straw/grass/dirt/whatnot may be a pretty good point of identification. First, some may blue around the mycelium or just the base. Second, it seems that most either come to a point with a small hole (like a mechanical pencil without the graphite), or they crack , often pulling up quite a bit of substrate. I know this is kind of vague, but I'll look around for more pics. Thanks!

Shroomie of Doomie,

Says,
Quote:

i've heard it makes u hallucinate all crazy, never tried it myself though... my friend said its bad, and can cause mycelium to grow in your lungs from the spores, but then again thermal death is at 106degrees F

So, you are again spreading misinformation at the site. This is a warning to you.

Might the 3 consecutive days of around 90 degree days stop fruiting? I've heard that subbs don't like temps above 85, but then again, the Lincoff field guide says they fruit until july.

The pan subbs fruit form Jan to May in The PNW. Than disappear dutring the hotter months. A few will return in the fall but not like the spring fruitings.

IT is a spring and fall species.

Also depends on where in the world you live.

Sorry to bring this post back from the dead, but I just uploaded some of the pics of these Pans that i took back in may and june.

this last pic compares Panaeolus Subbalteatus (on the left) with Panaeolina Foenescii (on the right). Keep in mind, however, that both species are variable.

one Subb blued at its base, but the pic came out too blurry. I took a print, innoculated some pf jars and spawned them to a combinatin of straw, rotting straw and horse poo since then, but i think i may have green mold or some type of funk.

Thanks!

Thanks!
