Hey folks this is a tub of king oysters that been in the fruiting chamber for a while, dose anyone know what is causing the growths in each corner, they look amazing but not particularly productive, is it a lack of or abundance of something. The tub is 40X40cm
All though and suggestions welcome
Cheers Ru

Kings do weird stuff like that but it's all mushroom and delicious
Somebody recently said (I think) they do it when a bit warmer than they like, if I remember correctly.

Looks like it could possibly be genetics? But yeah luckily with Kings all that hunky mycelium is just as tasty as a normal fruiting body.

Great news I was wondering about that!
I can control the temp in my fruiting chamber, do you think i should lower it and when should i harvest the weird bit cos its difficult to tell where thy are at with no caps, there are some normal mushrooms developing as well, maybe just at the same time?

Yeah I'd probably just harvest at the same time.

I am newb and growing kings too in tubs. Iv got lots of knots just waiting for pins i guess.
I just saw a youtube commercial grower that said pinning can only happen on cool temps. So I'm wondering, what temp do you grow in? And also should i drop the temp for my kings? Super newb thanks 🙃🙂🙃🙂

Wow that's a lot cooler than i thought but makes sense why mine have grown much faster over the cold week we had recently. Now im considering put a cool air fan on them but iv just got little tops on my pins. Its around 20c here but we are approaching summer and have some hot hot days Thank you!

Any cold shock, scraping surface before fruiting? Or just let it go?

No cold shock, only difference from blues or other oysters is instead of cutting slits in my bags to initiate pinning, I wait until I see pins forming inside the bag then I just fold the top down.

ye these are coir shoebox tek, got too hot and completely stalled unfortunately though. still in 30C temps so not attempting kings for a little while again.
We had a cold snap recently and my other blue oysters started pinning unexpectedly if that has any relevance.
