They have started collecting data on race/data from people getting the vaccine. Didn't used to. I think they are trying to use the data to 1) distribute the invitations more equitably and 2) gather correlative data (for efficacy, VAERS, etc.), but I'm not sure.

This has been a huge blind spot over the years and it is a bit of political quagmire at this point in history to get into differences related to gender or race. The simple fact is that there are huge differences related to gender and race as it relates to ones response to medication, and/or their response to a particular disease. Scientists need to stop pussy-footing around this fact because some SJW might get offended. This needs to be studied more extensively and treatments need to be custom tailored (personalized medicine) to those receiving it. In the end, it will give every advantage to those that embrace this notion.

The supposed races encompass a lot of variation, plus they kind of mesh into each other. Generalizing from a racial categorization is a poor substitute for knowing an individual person's specific genetic makeup. For drawing conclusions about whole populations and allocating resources etc, racial categorizations can have their place. But knowing that X genetic trait is more prevalent in a certain population does not mean that any individual person from that population must carry that genetic trait.

I mean to be fair I think that pharmacists and doctors have been looking into it more in the last decade without publicizing it. There are recently-approved tailor-made hypertension/diuretic cocktails for african americans vs. other races based on efficacy data. pharmacogenomics is an area of increasing interest regardless of what people in liberal arts are writing papers about. pharmacology textbooks are full of data about differential responses to medications by ethnicity/race

No, but, for example, as a doctor, you can intuit that the more sub-saharan-african a person's heritage appears to be, the more likely they will have a highly sodium-conserving aldosertone-angiotension system. This isn't fullproof, but medical decisions have to be made based on some amount of intuition, and this particular intuition has been generated over the course of decades. It isn't exactly rocket science determining whether or not a person has a significant amount of sub-saharan ancestry, and it's typically in the patients' best interests that the doctors act on that intuition because the data shows that certain diuretics and antihypertensives are likely to be more effective. frustrating as it may be to certain people on the extreme ends of liberal progressivism, recognizing biological differences is key to the equitable practice of medicine

Got my second Pfizer dose this morning. It’s looking like the Pfizer one may hold up to the variants, and new data is increasingly showing it decreases transmission as well.  Not sure what any data on the Moderna one is showing.

My wife’s getting her second on Monday, can’t wait to get back to real life.

Yea and a quick google search shows there’s promising data on Moderna as well. I’ve only been reading the Pfizer news since that’s the one I got. I keep hearing people I work with who are hesitant to get it talking about how the vaccines don’t protect against the variants or prevent transmission, for a lot of people I think it’s still somehow just a political thing. If any stat is less than 100% they’ll just latch on to that as their ‘science-based’ excuse.

Big surprise, the type of people complaining the most about lockdowns, masks, limited gathering sizes etc. are going to be the reason those things will stick around for years.

My wife just got her first Pfizer shot today, I still have to wait. I was hoping they would have some left over but no such luck.

Got the 2nd dose 20ish hours ago. Woke up today with a hangover feeling, just kind of tired and unmotivated, slight headache if I focus on it, brain fog and maybe a very mild fever, nose is a little stuffed, my arm hurts a lot with movement but that doesn't really bother me.

Already feeling slightly better as the morning goes by. I'm glad I got enough of a reaction to know it's probably working, but nothing all that uncomfortable and I should be fine to work tomorrow.

First shot all I had was a sore arm.

I get that sometimes you have to work with partial information and make guesses based on probabilities. And in some situations there will be little downside to false positive guesses. But it's a stopgap solution that would be rendered obsolete by a quick enough genetic scan.

My core point still stands, racial stereotyping is always going to be an inferior substitute for knowing the person's actual genes. That's the fullest way to appreciate biological differences between individuals, not outdated concepts of race.

I'm watching my parents' church service on FB right now. They're probably there because they never miss church if they can avoid it, even though I've tried to talk them out of it.

Some dumb fuck is coughing their stupid fucking head off. Maybe a third of them wear a mask. My mom takes hers off after she gets set down.

How the fuck am I not an arsonist, yet?

Yeah, I was on a Carnivore Sub-Reddit, and someone was asking if its possible not to break the carnivore diet on a cruise

So I commented

Quote:

Dont go on a cruise during Covid

and then a moderator replied to my comment and said

I imagine that is a small group of people; people who are on a carnivore diet interested in cruises.
Though if you include the staff and entertainment it's probably going to an exponentially larger number of people and still be a miniscule amount of people.
