They will burst a bit, mine do, it's to be expected to some degree.

Well the millet turned out pretty good, with 1 shake the water seems evenly dispersed. The bottom of the jar had some burst millet that are kinda stuck, but I won't worry about that too much I guess. The big problem is I didn't account for the expansion lol. I only have like an inch of room for shaking and 1 jar is to the top basically. Can I just dump some out in the sab before dropping agar?

Yeah they expand a bit, don't worry about the burst grains just give the jar a smack on your palm and shake them up.
You can dump some out if you want, it's not a big deal, especially if it's going to be a master jar or used to supplement fwfp bags.

i only do jars to fruit. ill probably just dump a little from the one thats all the way to the top and the rest i can still shake it just takes more effort. this way i can keep contam vectors to a minimum

Oh boy I think they expanded again. I have to dump some from every jar now.
What would you recommend doing if some get stuck on the rim of the jar and I can't close the lid? Use the lid to push them out the way or scalpel to get them off?

Never happened to me before, just give the jar a tap on the table, or something.

That was a nightmare I should've just made new jars lol. I think I touched the lids and stuff. Well hopefully I'll get workable jars even if they are a bit bacterial

So what’s the best way to inoculate the millet. I’m going to be using jars. Live Agar culture ready. Do I just drop a slice in the jar? Or you said something about taking the culture, drop in distilled water and shake well to break up. Then what? I pour into jar? I’m still a noob. I feel like if I do that I should be using an exact amount of distilled water and something to easily get agar/water mix into jars. Would dropping wedges into jars work fine as well?

It's a matter of preference, any method works great.
Start with an agar wedge, you can watch me drop one into some millet by clicking the visual aides link in my signature.

Crack told me to shake the two previously posted suspicious jars. So I shook the fuck out of them. It has been just a couple of days and those jars are recovering —robustly and uniformly.
Shall I put the other three jars in the mycofridge to ket these catch up? They look very healthy.
I don’t know. I don’t really know much about contamination but they look like the mycelium is just looking more Rhizomorphic to me. I could be totally wrong though. Is that possible? The mycelium is just growing differently? Does bacteria have those root like vein structures or is that strictly a mycelium trait?

Yeah I guess they do look weird. I trust your word. 👍. So I like to use shoeboxes. How many jars do I need for a shoebox grow?

Nvm bro. I just watched your video on that too. Just one jar. That’s perfect. Damn I’m glad I found your post you have all the info for how I’m planning to grow.

How much softer is the 20 minute boiled wheat compared to the 24 hour cold soak?
I'm asking because I made up two batches of WBS (which contains wheat), one prepped Fooman style with boiling water dumped into a bucket for 25 minutes and one soaked for 24 hours in cold water. The wheat from the 24 hour soak seemed to be hydrated comparably to the boiling water soaked wheat. It was quite soft, easily pierced with a finger nail, and the starchy core wasn't so hard and white anymore but had gotten dark and relatively soft.
Fooman prep isn't the same as 20 minute full boil/simmer obviously, but being that boiling WBS would be an absolute mess I figured hot soak is probably the best alternative.
I nocc'd up a bunch of the jars from the two different preps and I'm going to see how they turn out but is there another way besides visual examination to see if the wheat hasn't been sterilized fully? I imagine if it was improperly sterilized that would be evident through bacterial growth if the wheat was dropped onto agar?

When I soaked wheat for 24 hours there was no real softening of the kernel. I believe it was verum who ran a bunch of wheat like this but concluded that even though it worked he wasn't getting as much from it as a standard prep.
It probably won't hurt you much because the majority of your spawn will be made up of seeds, so run it out and see what happens.
The only time that I soaked wheat and it was properly/completely hydrated is when I soaked for 72 hours for the autoclave test.

i think im going to trash my millet because im a little wary about my PC pressure. i did the water droplet test and it took like 10 sec to evaporate, but i was doing no pours so only 35 min run, maybe the test only applies if your doing longer runs? its also stainless steel so it may not get as hot on the lid (base has aluminum to conduct heat). i think i remember it evaporating faster before when i first started doing cult, but then again during those days i was shooting jets of stream from my pc on medium heat so it may have gotten it hotter.
im going to start again with new jars and millet and PC for 2.5hrs, do you think millet can handle such a long PC time? maybe i should foil the bottoms so it doesnt turn to mush? i noticed the bottoms always had the bursts and mushys, probably because thats where water settles?
