When I started using Millet, I knew some left millet because its easy to make a mess with. But with care, I've had no problems keeping it where its supposed to be.

Hey P9 i have made some millet bags with your tek and have some questions...
I soaked 2kg of millet and then the bag was 2.6kg, so 600 grams of water, thats like 400 less than what i would have used with no prep. Do you think thats ok? Have you weighed them before and after soaking?
Anyways some G2g i do to them are doing well , do you shake the millet bags just like jars for speed up colonization?

So I soak my millet as outlined in the OP, and have never weighed it pre soak or post soak. How long did you soak it for?
Yes I roll and shake my bags around post g2g.

Thanks for the tek. I just acquired my first bag of millet after searching relentlessely. Its gone up 3x in my area over the past year apparently. My rye prep is bang on but im hoping millet withstands a 19 hour steam in my home made barrel better than rye does. If so itll be worth the extra cost. Im going to attempt this for my first millet prep coming up soon here ๐

Good luck man, if you're doing 19 hours make sure that's after it gets up to temp. Get yourself a probe, don't start your cycle timer until your bags reach 100ยฐ.

12 hours, ok but do you shake again or nah? For jars i shake them at 30-60% and it works nicely.

Yeah man that's plenty of time to soak. With bags I shake about 20% in and then again at like 40 or 50%. It seems to speed shit up.

19 hours is working. Takes about 5 hours to get to temp.. i stabbed a compost thermometer into top bag on the first run and added the rest from there. Contam isnt my issue but rather burst soggy rye grains. They still work out more often than not but im hoping with millet having a harder shell i can get that perfect grain consistancy we all know and love

Sweet, I like to see guy's using these bulk methods. I've got an atmospheric sterilizer on the back burner that I've been meaning to get to. Post your pics here for me, I'd love to see how it works out for you.

Bet it's not as dirty as my 50lb bag of oats. Fucking disgusting it's like they swept the barn floor and just put all the dust and debris in the bag w the oats. I keep finding weird dead bugs and other types of grains and corn kernels in it too. Some of my jars have ended up accidentally being multigrain with a touch of straw jars xD

Oats have been hit or miss for me. Wheat was super awesome but I just don't want to have to boil my grains anymore and millet is perfect for that. If I was going to boil prep it would be wheat for sure.
It is a bit more expensive, I lay 30$/50lb bag and I just picked up 200lbs.
