For those who are concerned about the price of millet:

I purchase millet for 30$ CAD/50 lb bag.
Let's say that the seeds absorb 30% water by weight, 30% of 50 is 15lbs.
(For arguments sake)

50lbs of raw millet plus the additional 15 pounds of absorbed water = 65lbs.

So a fully hydrated bag of millet will weigh 65 pounds after soaking.

I prepare 4lbs of hydrated millet per spawn bag, 1 bag= 1x 66qt tub.

65lbs of millet divided by 4lb spawn bags=
16 spawn bags or 16x 66qt tubs.

From each 66qt tub I expect a bare minimum of 5 dry oz first flush with a maximum expectation of about 8 dry oz.

So 5x16= 80 dry oz or 8x16= 128 dry oz

From one 30$ bag of white millet I expect 80-128 dry oz of Psilocybe Cubensis.

*Failures happen, lets call it no greater than 3% though it will be lower than that, just for arguments sake.

Considering the end result I'd say that even at 50$/bag millet is relatively inexpensive.

Other considerations:

Rate of failure is a consideration, I find that millet has a very low rate of failure which means that downstream resources will not be wasted; any grains that can be considered more risky but less expensive up front will actually cost you more in downstream resources than what more expensive grains will cost initially.

What about the cost when your setting up a room full of automated LED light tubs PLUS your building your own a 10x10 grow tent with a 12 disc ultra sonic system for a crazy sq footage of grow space?

Millet gets costly real quick!!!

Well then tell me why I'm gonna spend the money for more "inoculation  points" because I sure as shit have complete success with what I'm doing and my experiences tell me that the inoculation points are pointless no pun intended!!!

You also never addressed the flaws in your logic because you said with the extra heat required to boil and give it extra pressure/increase in average kinetic motion for proper sterilization it makes millet the better choice but yet I blew a huge hole in that so????

I want to discuss this whole inoculation point thing too because does anyone think the extra points has greatly improved an aspect of their grow op?

I get it from a feed store out in the sticks. I can get it for ~35 at a local bird shop.

They can make blends which is super cool but I just stick to straight white millet.

Actually I get from my local feed supply but sorry it's right near me and I don't feel comfortable?

I get a delivery for just me 300lbs at a time for 60 bucks!!!

Talk to your local supplier? I used to buy insane amounts for my mushroom farm I used to operate but sold that company years ago but still have the sick connections and relationships with horse farmers and my local feed store!!

Whoops my bad I read that question wrong but anyways I can't get millet less then .86 a pound!!!

It just recently went up to that and is why I switched myself to cheaper grains about a year and a half ago now though I played around alot before as well!!!

I really like millet for how quick it is the prepare but it's a messy ordeal but hey for home cultivation I suppose it is the best?

More inoculation points, increased surface area combined with even mixing will give you a faster more uniform colonization of blocks or substrate.

Consider a larger grain like corn: the very large kernel has more surface area than any individual grain of millet but has less overall surface area. The larger kernel means that less kernels will fit within a jar or a bag when compared to smaller grains which means that each point of inoculation will be further apart from one another once spawned.

Small/ numerous grains will mix more globaly and will have exponentially more points of inoculation. More points of inoculation means more sources of growth.

Consider liquid culture: the surface area of water is greater than that of a single agar wedge. When LC is introduced to sterile grains the growth is rapid due to the exponentially greater surface area and therefore greater number of inoculation points. This is the exact same principle that applies to any other source of inoculation.

Consider slurry tek: slurry is macerated, liquified grains. This increases surface area, which increases inoculation source contact, which increases speed and uniformity.

More inoculation points = good.

Few inoculation points doesn't equal bad, just not ideal.

Some people like LC, others prefer agar wedges. Some folks like one grain over another for many different reasons. None are wrong, just different. Preference is often subjective but there are objective qualitative differences as well.

To each their own. The great thing about cult practices are that there are 1k ways to get from a to b; enough ways to fit most palates, most experience levels, and any other variable you'd care to consider.

Do what works well for you. Don't fix what isn't broken unless you're interested in learning new approaches or would like to streamline efficiency.
