Rave scenes, drugs and hypocrisy.

I find it annoying and freaky that so many in various rave/techno scenes I've seen around the US are so anti-drug. Or pretend to be. The misinformation is horrible, and the idea that the whole rave thing would have gotten as big as it did without MDMA is ludicrous.
I've met some great people via raves, and usually enjoy the music of a good trance set, but goddamn. What gives?

That's the whole point. The old-skoolers didn't WANT it to get this big. They wanted to keep it underground instead of just becoming a haven for druggies who don't give a shit about PLUR.

on the outside, you have to give the impression as a club owner that you are trying to keep the drugs out. the law and the "rave act" are the reason its gotten so bad. promoters are faced with jailtime if the club becomes a crack house in the gov'ts eyes. so yeah you gotta blame the "man" for it all
like buzz for instance has been busted many times, FOX 5 went undercover and exposed the drug culture at buzz completely and it was shut down for a while. now after being shut down again and reopened you are fully searched when you go in, and no paraphanelia like pacifiers and masks and gay candykid shit are allowed.. personally i like it better that they are keeping a lot of the candy raver riff-raff out.

There was a PLUR set up in one of my cities rave. And the girl new I was on E, she didn't really know anything about drugs, except she read a little out of the Erowid pamphlet's on the table. It would have been OK, but she kept annoying me, every two seconds she would be asking me to drink water. If I would have listened to her, I probably would have died from a water overdose.

I mean, I've been partying since 97, and I've certainly taken my share of drugs, but when a whole pack full of sketchy ice-heads or coked up alchoholics takes over a party it fucking ruins the vibe IMO.
I aint got no problem with people on psychedelics, but when narcotics or alchohol get involved, I feel like I lose connection with the crowd.
back in the day, everyone at a rave was either on e or a. Also, there used to be a distinction between raves and clubs. Since raves have been shut down by the government and that darn 'liberal' media, ravers and clubbers have had to share the same environments, despite a conflict of core values (or in the case of clubbers, total lack thereof).

Ok, I'll rephrase from "big" to "all the things they claim to love about the 'scene'"
True on various points in these responses: ice seems to have fucked up a number of things (per a friend, the D.C. goth scene got pretty fucked up thanks to meth)
And Run, I'd fear the army of PLUR 16 year old bitch ass candy ravers, yo.
