Hmmmb Thats like 2 days after a light break n roll shake. Yknow, if they make it far enough just to give me a shoebox or small containers, fine 👌 Im still munching on bac fruit harvests from March ahaha

Hello all,
This jar was in the first batch of oats I ran and filled them way too full (rookie mistake). I ended up redoing my jars but used this one with a dish I made transfers from for fun. It was inoculated with a third transfer from MSS on agar which appeared clean. It was a test run that I didn’t expect much out of since it was so full. I shook it twice and it seemed to rebound nicely each time and only has a small bit at the bottom left to colonize. Any thoughts on how it looks before I make a shoebox out of it? Thanks so much!

I hate to say it but those are pretty bacterial. Very classic bacterial look to them.

Put them all into individual shoeboxes if you like, they probably won't perform well though so it will just be a lesson in spawn health and performance. I'd top fruit or spawn outdoors if you want anything out of them, that's my go to answer for shitty spawn.
Always the 3 options:
1. Spawn and take notes, learn the visual ques and how they correlate to performance;
2. Top fruit that bitch;
3. Make an outdoor bed and post pics in the outdoor thread.

I wondered about the wet-ish look in spots and some of the spiky spots. Fortunately it’s just one jar. I’ll probably make a shoebox out of it for practice since it’s my first run through but will definitely not expect much and will have learned something. Thanks for taking a look!

All good smart! If this came from my agar wedge then some of my other jars are moldy right?
I used quarter wedges from 2 different plates.

You probably dropped it in just the one jar, hopefully anyways. I'd be impressed if you managed to drop some mold into all of them. Spore fell of your arm or glove, er something.

Try to lift the lid as little as possible and for as short a time as possible. Even in front of a hood i hold my scalpel handle all the way back at the bottom so my hand is as far as possible from the jar. The inner lip of the jar is a clean space (or should be) so you can wipe the slice off rather than any kind of shaking or jerking to get it off.

Thanks p9hu7! I appreciate the help again!
Without you guys my head would be really spinning.
Sad thing is I felt pretty good about the sab work.
I may have remembered lightly bumping my xacto onto the edge of a jar lid while wiping the wedge off. Hopefully that was it. Thanks for the great tips smart!

Oh for sure if I have a spare tub I’ll spawn pretty much anything that finished colonizing.
Idk why but I have this thing where I like to see what contaminated jars will do.

Makes sense, it's the only way to know what they're going to do ; )
I've spawned so much bad spawn over the years that I don't even have time for shit like this:

Took it out of the fridge and found too many white splotches, gave it a shake only to find that it recovered slow af. That jars going in a little outdoor planter whenever I can get around to it.

Yeah i definitely used to do it more because I could only cook one jar at a time, so I didn’t care how long of a shot it was it was getting spawned lol.
I actually have one right now that I tried to top fruit and it won’t even colonize the coir

Thanks AKA for your advice and P9 for your opinion so much. This is my first grow so I’ll be happy with pretty much anything lol. I put it in a shoebox yesterday and will have my fingers crossed. I figure if I can get any fruits at all I could try to get a spore print and/or and try to clone it. Goal is to continue to dial in my technique so I can get to the point I’m very picky about spawn I use. It’s been a very educational experience and I really appreciate how you guys help us out. Such a cool hobby and great group of people. Thanks again!
