It certainly helps to take a break from time to time. Clear your head, focus on some priorities and return with a sense of purpose.

p9, ty for the great thread. I recognize a number of the symptoms in the beautiful millet I raped.
I am going to try agar wedges instead of sketch LC.
I am careful about sterile technique, have a good SAB and just started wiping everything I use down with ISO: agar media jars, scalpels gloves repeatedly. I am tryiing to figure a way to make a FH that I can keep the LL and service folks from getting suspicious about. I konw that a FH is not a substitute for sterile technque, but there are FH variations from technique in an SAB that might be easier to manage. Plus I can leave my plates in the flow as they cool to avoid the condensation that I always get even when pouring at near solidifying temps of agar.
I did get over 15.5 pounds wetn out of all my sketchy oats. The millet looks even nastier, I see now. It's here - https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27383590 . Shall I toss it in the trash outside and start again? This looks bad enough that I don't even want to shoebox it, am I right?
20 lbs, 20 bucks, 20 jars. I gotta find a better price for a bigger bag.
I totally appreciate your sharing of knowledge.

Yeah, unfortunately those are no good. You can definitely spawn them outside though. A FH is a great peice of kit, if you can get one then have at er. I find working in a SAB to be cumbersome.

Been getting some slightly bacterial spawn recently, I think I need to tighten up my prep and pour less LC. I never really saw much of an issue adding a lot of LC to a jar but with all the pooling it creates and such I think that's why I'm seeing a little bacterial presence.
Definitely got a little sloppy about my prep. With WBS, do you know you fucked up the prep just if you're seeing too many burst grains? Are there any other ways to tell before you inoculate that you didn't prep well?
I never get that many burst grains but maybe the addition of LC along with some slightly overhydrated WBS could lead to bacteria? For instance my most recent LC I poured like 50mL in each, mainly to see what would happen and yeah it did end up looking slightly bacterial at 100% colonization, although those jars there weren't really any burst grains at all.
Think I'll soak my WBS shorter like 6-8 hours and then hang to dry a bit longer for my spawn bag prep and see how that turns out because the 3.5 hour cycle really seems to make things somewhat mushy. Little too dry is probably preferable to little too wet I imagine.
This is about all over the place, just tryna think through how to nail down grain prep.

knowing the drill of sterile technique and being thwarted by a cumbersome environment in the pita SAB is frustrating. i am going to look at diy teks. i want to build 2x4 ft because i think that is the largest stashable size. my neck of the woods is conducive to home ownership for the rich, which ain't me right yet, so i have to be able to stealthify cult from prying eyes, especially my fucking pain in the balls landlord.
what's the best rated[finest] main filter? [9.9999% of x-micron particles] i figure go great or get lost. i know sorry that was a n000bish question. maybe there are links to supplies in the teks. my studio assistant's shop skills are cabinet-meker level. so we can even make it pretty or atvleast perfect. is a FH that size heavy? everything in the lab must be able to go into the walk-in closet. fairly quickly.
seriously wish i could trade artwork for one. and an electric AA75x.
OH YEAH...Dakota Best Seed...millet at 55cents/pound, though with shipping the inbound proso white cost about $78/50#

Yeah a 2x4 x11” does end up being on the heavy side when you get the frame and blower attached.

I have a 2'x4' hood that I built myself and it is large and heavy. Not the easiest thing to hide.

My filter 99.999% @ .1 micron.
You can a lot done with a presto. The only reason I have a 75x is because I'm trying to get a business running. Nate has a gourmet business and doesn't have a 75x as far as I know.

Yeah dude my hood is not going anywhere without employing a forklift or completely disassembling it. 2x4 is in no way suitable for incognito. That's like driving a Humvee when you live and have to park in Brooklyn.

Get yourself something like this:

It's super light and easy to move, you could tuck it away no problem. This is a series 1 from FP but you could easily build one. Or grab a small ffu, that's likely the best route.

You get a chance could I get dimension fo the entire ball of gracem, including the table...gonna see if I can put it on 4" casters and wheel it into the supplyu closet.
I'll have to figure it out. I poured about 80 petris in the last week, Not a speck of contam. I transferred today...waiting to see what happens, hopeflully not a bugfest like I've lately dealt with.
P9, you got a link for that filter? I'm gonna show my friend the specs and your FH math and see what wee can come up with. Btter yet, anybody got links to favored TEKs for the build, though that I can prbably actually search.
I just love doing this; it's definitely an avocation and I'm in deep, but my first love is being an artist. Talk about a fucking blessing.
BTW, any of you want to see some trippy trippy paintings, shoot me a PM.
Off to my happy place.

Well it's just a box, it's not really a tek. Use ferring strips to hold the filter in the box, cut a whole for the blower.
My filter was purchased from a Canadian company so that may not be too helpful.
It's probably a lot better to just get a fan filter unit. That's what I would do next time around.

A little early to say but does a clumpy start this size means bacterial?

Thanks
