I'm soaking to hydrate my rye and it works great but I don't think it will be enough if you cut the soak to 4-8. 24 will be soaked to the core, 4-8 will be powder inside.

I think that it's possible to make it work, especially if you know what you're doing; however I believe that it's a poor choice if you're still struggling with bacterial contamination in your spawn, or if you're new. I could be wrong obviously and just an old curmudgeon set in his ways.
I wouldn't put you in that camp though, smart.
I would be super interested in seeing what the pre cycle internal hydration is on your wheat though; also what it looks like internally post cycle.
Would you cut your grain open and take pics and post them here for me at some point? It would be much appreciated. Both post soak, and post cycle.
I've done this with oats with shitty results. I would run the test myself but I don't have any wheat and my shit is all packed in boxes.

Forgot to mention I boil after soaking but yeah Smart I'd like to see the internal grain as well! I think I did ~20 hours longest soak and cut it open before boiling and was still pretty dry but I am newb

I know they are getting hydrated by 24hours when about 5% are sprouting 🙂. Also always cut at least 5 sample grains from every batch to check first. I'll take pics of mine next time.

Not sure what you mean.
"Spikey" mycelium (see OP) is an indication that your mycelium is stressed from fighting a bacterial infection, spikey doesn't refer to rhizomorphic.
So if you have stressed mycelium it doesn't matter if it's fully or partially colonized. If you go back to the example picture's you'll notice that they persist even when fully or mostly colonized.

I get that formation sometimes but IME its always when the bag is fully colonized and it has time to sit for a bit so i thought it was over growth not a bacterial problem

We easy prep ... I start3d with rye ... but the millet is easy asf !! And IMO the potency is way better too..

Grain choice shouldn't effect potency, but I do a agree on the prep.

Before I started this fun.. I did months of studying.. I’ll try and find the write about grains affecting potency.. man I could do a 7-8 no problem with the rye .. you do a 5 of this and it’s straight to the Mayan underworld!! Same lineage cloned off the rye ..

Glad you found it helpful : )
I don't think that we have any LC's gone wrong pics yet (LC that has caused bacterial grain spawn), that would be cool, thanks.
Edited for clarity.

I think an LC judgment thread would be the same thing as an agar thread, as the judgement should be made after testing it on agar first. Visually doing a go or no go on an LC is flying pretty loose IMO.

I agree. LC doesn't lend itself well to visual assessment. If its turbid then its basically a no go imo, unless the broth is supposed to be turbid which makes things even more difficult. Plates are best for that.
I was referring to spawn that had turned bacterial as a result of bad LC though. We have pics of bad g2g, bad a2g, but I'm not sure if we have bacterial spawn from a liquid yet.
I re read my statement and its pretty ambiguous, but that's what I meant.
