p9 is singlehandedly making the forum go reinspect their spawn
This is a good refresher. I just went through all my bags and master jars and spent some time really looking close.

Here’s another tough one, yeti with almost apeu level thick tomentose.

I’m not sure if it’s clean, but it looks a lot better in the pictures than in person. Half the time when a jar is recovering from a shake I start thinking it’s bacterial but then it fills in perfectly, especially tomentose.

If it was bacterial the shake would definitely reveal it. That looks clean to me, brother. I think it's the colour contrast between the tomentose myc and the grain that make it look slightly odd.

Was the yeti rhizo as fuck on agar? All the nicest plates I’ve posted where yeti. She ran beautiful, wish I would have took some clones. I need to run it again to re-up on some swabs.

My rusty whyte spawn is slightly bacterial most likely. Wasn’t ice creamy but 3 out of 5 took more than a few taps to break up (banged the shit outta em 🤣) one I couldn’t break up at all but also didn’t leave much headroom. I’m not even bothering with that one.
All have a very pleasant slight odor of marshmallows.. not strong just a hint. Since I already made a batch of sub for them I guess I’ll send them and see how they do... I’ll mark the tub lucky charms so I remember if I’m bitching later about spotty yield 🤣
They broke up fine for the final 90% shake. Maybe I let em go too long after.

Yep that’s the same super tomentose that trips me up. Looks good though I can still see the individual fluffy hairs.

@d3monic, how come you shook them up at 90%? Wouldn't it of been better to just let them go for 100%? Or am I missing something here?

They where probably closer to 70ish maybe? It’s hard to say but I tend to give a final shake before fully colonized to make sure they bounce back. Only shook these once or twice

I’ve been messing with shaking more since lotkid brought it up. Shaking more often early on does seem to speed things up a lot. I’ll prob be shaking 4 times this next batch until I hit the point where it’s too much. Basically I’ve been waiting til the myc jumped off the wedge onto the surrounding couple rows of grain and shaking, then waiting until those grains fuzz up and grab the few grains around them and shake again. Really increases inoculation points quickly.
And here’s some b+ spawn im real into right now.

Love clean jars.

I hear ya. I basically do the same thing, not only does it exponentially increase inoculation points when clean but it's a good test of cleanliness.

Is there such a thing as too much shaking? I mean obviously don't shake multiple times a day but...

If you disrupt it too often it will spend more time recovering than not. I shake on inoculation, then again to increase inoculation points once it's about here:

And then again around 60% to test recovery.

That thread got me thinking about my 10 tub disaster (all have trich).
I suppose that bag is fucked? (1:1 red millet:oats, hydrated separately) So top fruit? I have some more sketchy bags...
