Yeah np man, I haven't saw anyone else using it when referring to cult so it was a good question.

I can see it is your dick in the way of the screen again?
You mean the question about rinsing?

I really love that you have been addressing this. I am not the only one that is lazy here... and I have heard many a grower skip rinsing... So I often do.
In an attempt to hunt down a cause of some mild bacteria, I started rinsing my birdseed post soak... and my bags look so much better during leapoff.
I asked why this is because I had a suspicion that leaving starches on the exterior of the grains (post soak) left this very nutrient rich situation... condensation on the bag or jar walls would now be basically LC water dying to get contaminated during inoculation... or even just from improper sterilization.
But your explanation is wonderful.
Lets wash our grains more, if we aren't already!

I don't think that I'm the only one suggesting this, I haven't read any teks in a while but most grain prep tells people to rinse their grains until the runoff is clear...at least I think they do.
I know that smart uses a dash of dish soap, which I think is a good idea.
If people aren't washing their grains then they aren't following common grain prep practices.

I'm taking it a step more and have a drill mounted round bristle brush for agitating in the bucket. Scrub each grain FTW.

I've taken to having my grains in a brewers bag, in a bucket with huge holes in its floor. that bucket hovers over another empty bucket. I pour 5 gallons through the grain, over and over.... then fresh water and again. I feel the movement of the water is more aggressive than lifting the brewers bag up and down (teabaggin')
this bucket screen is nice for the bucket alignment:

Add some dishwasher soap, to completely clean all the surface of the grains.

Already been doing that a long time lol.
Next step: Indoor sterile grow room to cultivate sterile grain that can go strait to jars for inoculation.

lol, by the way, I'm also going to start using an extra thing that kills bacteria in my grain water. shocktreat 12-18 hrs the water with ozone. Obviously, will buy a more potent one than the one in the picture.

Don’t you think that it would work better not in a bucket of water? Like, maybe just a sealed bucket. Idk I’m just thinking it won’t really mix with the water well.

Vegetative bacteria are extremely easy to kill, none of that is necessary.
Vegetative bacteria won't last longer than ~5 mims at 100°C, so all of the Vegetative bacteria is dead at the beginning of the sterilization cycle. We only need to exceed 100°C, and maintain a minimum of 15psi to kill the thermophilic endospores.
Any contraption used to kill Vegetative bacteria before the sterilization cycle is pointless, washing off the dirt is the only consideration besides choosing a quality grain.
Even if you wanted to pre massacre the vegetative bacterial cells, fermentation will do this nicely; remember though, any attempt to produce an environment that is unsuitable for vegetative Bacillusto thrive will be triggering the correct conditions for endosporulation which means that you're actually just making matters worse.
Best to just save your time and money by simply rinsing your grain.

Good info, I would do it like this:
1. rinse with soap 2. soak 18hrs, during soak, change the water a couple of times. 4. proper Drying 5. and then PC.

How do these two jars of spawn look to some of the more seasoned vets in the thread? I suspect them to be a little bacterial but they don't seem terrible. Full colonization in 14 days

That's a lot of interior moisture, I would personally be suspicious of that spawn if it was looking out at me from my shelf.

If you have irregular temperatures in your spawn storage area that can happen too. I see it frequently in my jars during the seasons where temp swings a lot. Not everyone has a steady 68 where they grow. Not saying that's your only issue.
