M-maybe we can just account the thick white mycellium to it being APE...
Oh lordy, I think a lot of jars are going to the bin tonight

Keep a couple to spawn to an individual shoebox, this way you can see how they perform first hand and draw your own conclusions about performance and how it correlates to visual cues.

Yeah I'll give it a shot. If I get a few fruits at least my heart won't ache as much
Good thing I bought 25lbs of millet today. Seems ill need it for round 2!
And thanks AKA and p9. I've learned a lot today

This is why it's very important to be certain of your spawns cleanliness before committing to expansion, too many downstream resources are sacrificed unnecessarily if your master isn't 100%, it's not worth the risk imo.
You're not only expanding the mycelium exponentially, you will be expanding and increasing the contamination as well. Grain is too expensive, both in terms of monetary value but also in terms of the time and energy expenditure to prepare it for spawn.

Yeah I would still spawn them to shoeboxes for sure. But if you g2g anything with even a hint of contam it usually goes downhill very quickly.

oh well shit if i should still spawn em that makes me feel a lot better!
I didnt want to say it before... but technically ive been throwing not completely clean plates to jars cause i wanted to see some fruits. so i guess the jars turned out how they were supposed to haha.
luckily ive finally got some clean plates so round 2 will be clean transfers and well see how these new jars will look.

I did the same thing when I started out and had a lot more success than I was led to believe would happen.
Ime as long as the jar finishes colonizing and there’s no mold you’ll probably get a decent flush from it.
I’ve also had a ton of gross tubs and weird deformed mushrooms but it’s all interesting to me, plus I think seeing so many sketchy tubs grow has helped me identify problems in my other tubs.

Hey guys, could I get some assessment on these jars? So I THOUGHT this was a clean APE plate (closest to clean i had at the time) I put to rye with blenderless LI, but it's having some of the same issues such as pressed against glass grains and thick mycellium. Can I get a confirmation this is also bacterial? If my plate really wasn't clean then it's OK I guess, but if it was then I may be screwing up my sterile work.

I'd go back to using wedges for the time being and do some side experiments with the LI to get some practice in. Those jars aren't looking good.

That's the best route so that you're getting something for your effort; don't give up on the LI though, keep fucking around with it and try to find the fault in your procedure while your main jars are growing.

well i just canned one of the worser jars from the pic. it was all stuck together and i had to really pound it to break it up to throw it away. its not like mycellium was holding it together, so maybe too much liquid from LI and overhydrated grains?
I just checked my jars and i have a MAZ plate i split 2 with LI and 2 with wedges so i may actually have a control and see if its my LI tek thats messing with things.

The thickened mycelium causes the grains to glue together, it's a bad sign.
Good idea, you'll figure it out. When you do it's going to be so simple, it will be some minor change that changes the game for you. This has almost always been the case for me.

ive noticed that a lot of the excess condensation in my jars dries up at night. i think during the day when the a/c is running it just causes them to sweat bad. but the problem with the sweating is it may cause some grains to soak up too much moisture. ive noticed some grains turned more dark/saturated with moisture look to them and they dont get colonized by the mycellium.
i wonder what came first, the bacteria, or the sweating which made the grain too moist that mycellium dont like to colonize.

The fluctuating temps and condensation is not the source of the issue, however it will have made any minor contamination worse.

yeah that makes sense. i think ill just let the room get hotter (~78F) during the day rather than be so OCD about keeping the room 75 or below.
i got some millet cooling and a batch i made last night so ill split up a clean plate into 4ths and drop into jars of both batches. my pc doesnt have a guage or a rocker, but proclaims 15psi (fagor) so its a variable thats hard to control, but i did one batch at a small stream of steam and one slightly stronger. so well see if any of them contam.

I'd still keep your room as cool as you can, but it's more important to insure that your grain is actually sterile.
If you plan on doing this for any length of time I'd get a proper pressure cooker.

With wbs grain usually turns dark from bacteria.

ah makes sense. i figured it probably was since theres these random rye grains that are darker/saturated looking that mycellium dont seem to want to touch

This just blew up overnight, maybe 3 days after using blenderless li on a maz plate. At first it was only some spots of fuzz and from the wedge, but overnight it fuzzed up everywhere. It's not thick and white like my stuff normally is, but it has the pressed up grains and it just seems way too fast for overnight change. Pure bacteria?
