We'll see! I actually spawned them later that day I think. The shoebox from the first pic weeks ago here never pinned at all, I have a log posted on that one. But here's from those jars, so far so good

Cling is annoying to use in the kitchen I agree, but wrapping dishes with it is so easy. I honestly don't see a problem.

I actually like bodhi's mini roll method. I think I also saw him or someone else roll a stack of plates at once with regular roll, I tried that for my last transfer sessions. Ill cut them apart later after theyve fully colonized, keep them wrapped together now for organization.

That was one of the best write ups I’ve seen... you covered the basics and a little more advanced signs/errors that either show or lead to contam. Honestly I wish I had read this when I started out, coulda have saved me a lot of time and frustration. But at the same time I’m glad I had to learn through failure, if you don’t experience something by witnessing it first hand then you won’t really have the full comprehension of what’s happening or went wrong to cause it... again man lots of credit for that, I just hope enough people read it and apply it!

Do these rye jars look good enough to G2G? I inoculated with a new ms syringe from a reputable vendor. (I know, I'll be starting with agar from here on out. However I'm confident they're quality syringes. I was able to germinate spores on rye from one 6 years old kept ambient in the dark).

These are the first two jars about to hit 100%. They recovered well after shaking (within 24 hrs).

I would like to stretch each one out to 5 more quart jars, the idea being to expand my spawn without stretching my luck. My only concern are the slightly pressed grains against the glass on the bottom.  :takingnotes:

What do ya'll think, clean enough for a brief expansion before fruiting? I'd like to roll the dice, if the odds are in my favor. I'm confident in my sterile SAB technic and have 5 similar jars that will be finished by next week. Those I plan to fruit asap, so I can clone and possible take some prints.

As always, THANK YOU CULTIVATORS!

They look good to me and if they recovered quick post-shake I'd say go for it.

Rate my jars please. These are pretty typical for me. A little slow to grow, this is four weeks. Temps can be a little low, mid 60's at night.  Clean agar. No moisture or obvious metabolites.  Well dried oats.  I’ve let jars cooked this way sit for months with no contam. After reading the OP kinda wondering if the oats aren’t wet enough at the core.

How are these looking, I think they are ok but there are a few thicker patches. I shook on inoculation and again after like 3 days per the advice in this thread as they maybe locked a little moist. They are about 7 days now but are colonising in multiple patches due to the early shake so are further ahead than they look.

The only issue of concern I see is the rhizo growth. Though there are legit/healthy reasons for rhizo, ie searching for a new source of nutrients, that explanation wouldn't make sense in the context of a partially colonized jar, and the nonuniformity with the cottony growth is suspect. Might as well see how it progresses, the contam/no contam condition will only get clearer.

Then again, don't put too much stock in my opinion. I've read plenty on this forum, but only inoculated my first grain jars just recently.

Last update on my first tub. Based on these healthy-looking (albeit short) fruits, I wouldn't throw out spawn if the only sign of contam is that it won't separate when shaken. I'm not saying contamination isn't an issue here, maybe someone can confirm it is?, just that I'm pleasantly surprised at the yield so far, considering all the missteps I wrote about earlier. Another one: the substrate thickness isn't uniform (bottom of tub ended up being convex) and even at its thickest is about 1/2" too thin. In the end, this was all about gaining experience, and it's been fun. Next tubs will be better. Can't wait to start working with agar!

Ok so here’s a good one. Both of these are healthy, pe6 and pf classic. THe classic on the right has super thick myc though which kinda looks off.
