So I'm doing my first millet jars on Sunday, I have plates good to go.
My plan is 12 hour soak in a muslin (brewers bag), pull it out and let it drain over the sink or wherever for 20 mins, jar them and pc them at 15 psi for 90 mins. How much do they expand in the pc? Do you fill two thirds?

Oh Im pretty sure theyre fucked. I was really excited to finally have enough spawn to actually do stuff, looks like back to the agars for me.
Different dates
grain to grain transferred 2/10 same two jars just a different angle

grain to grain 2/16 and 2/10

gtgs from 1/30

It is really good to have a post like this because we can look back and realize the old "Nah Bro it is your spawn" comments. Nothing wrong with taking longer to get it right. I started up again at the end of October and still dont have anything worth posting because I refuse to spawn suspect jars. (Except for my King Tub, everything else has been kinda nope.... Back to Agar)

isn't that not a little expensive? I'm kind of fucked up over here now.. sure I've had SOME success but wow no wonder.
The only jars I've ever seen run like described in OP were pf cakes agars? well no one told pastywhyte that red3 is fungicidal, so hardly any ever successful a2g, and then just finding out about all of this digging around looking for tips
this isn't like some expert tip, this is critical essential knowledge or else uh well seems everyone here has done a lot of starting over, I'm getting tired of starting over, my wallet is tired of starting over. This needs to be merged with the contam ID stickys if it hasn't yet

HAHA.
I agree this should be a sticky at some point. My point was that I don't usually let it get as far as fully contaminated or partially bacterial jars. If I do not like what I see on agar, I keep going until I get nice clean growth. If I don't like my grain prep after PC, I will dump them before using. I also prep jars and bags weeks in advance to allow them to set up a shelf and see if they are worth using.
For me Personally I have been having more technical issues with my Cadco shorting out and my Presto 23 qrt not sealing because the gasket is 10 years old so that also has contributed to me not having great results lately. It isn't just that we all get bacterial jars all the time.

Definitely seriously bacterial and some mold in those jars.

That's an interesting comment Sock, so is it fine to prep grains jars some time in advance of using them? Or is it preferable to use them soon after they are cool enough? I assumed they would dehydrate if left for weeks. (I didn't pass science).

I used some jars 8 months old some time ago. Can't remember but I think it went fine.

Both jars and bags will start to loose moisture over time (weeks) but how much depends on your jar lid, or filter on the bag. I have weighed bags after weeks on the shelf and they did lose some weight. It's been a minute and I didn't record how much, but it was definitely lighter.
I prefer to use them within a couple days to a couple weeks, but I have used grain that sat for two months and it worked still.

I feel stupid for even asking- these petris were inoculated with truffle mycelium off of red3 agar, 1 day after transfer and whispy growth can be seen running off the wedges.

Contam/mold/bullshit right? Sorry for the condensation /low visibility, maybe zoom in

Myc will start to move in a day, but that stuff you show that's like 3/4 of an inch long no way, not in one day.

Right... This particular truffle variety was notorious for making stones on agar under a month with previous samples. BUT you guys know better than me. 2 day old Z strain agar pin clone, like these pins grew on agar and well as you can see, if legit, these truffles are running faster than z strain. Yeah right.

Could the 3 full colonized jars I posted together still be spawned like even top fruited? Safe for plant roots? I'm too attached to trash it. There were 4 but noticed the fourth had trich when I went to take pics, few hours earlier if I had dry grains probably wouldn't have saw it.

By truffle do you mean tamps or something?
Those jars look like cube myc to me. All the stone producers I’ve seen are much thinner.

No I promise you it's truffle mycelium, for sure, we have harvested and eaten several ounces off this variety. Mexican Galindoi is what the syringe said, been working with it on agar over a year now.

So I have a couple of really slow growth jars. The first I shaked after fully colonized and waited till the others caught up.

Theres a good bit of water in there and I suspect its bacterial but would like other opinions. The second jar is one that just finished up. I dont have high hopes for these as they were from old grown out T1's and I'm further isolating to clean it up.

Looks like you're growing mold.
