Well that escalated quickly! I have a feeling this may be ready to do some transfers as soon as tomorrow. This morning I could barely see the mycelium.

Opening up fae helped tame the overlay but before it did that it consumed the casing layer on the left, but it's not blobby, so that's good I guess. The one on the right is the one I broke up into some coir to reduce the nutrient ratio to hopefully get a decent flush but

That middle one looks crazy I’m curious what it’ll do.

My clone tub is knotting up nicely, still looking like a cube grow for the most part for once. No overlay or myc climbing to the lid.

Kinda making me wonder if maybe more nutrition than normal helps now  gonna have to run it again with less spawn to see but maybe it’s like some of the gourmets where you can make up for using suboptimal substrate by increasing the amount of spawn.

My tubs were 1 cup spawn to 2 cups manure with a touch of straw. I think the fae restriction played more of a role in the overlay for this go round but I could be wrong. We'll see how this 3rd tub turns out

I was thinking of running some straw in one of my tubs. Do you have to pasteurize it? I'm thinking of a completely different substrate to try.

You can try cold water pasteurization. 2g of lime for 1L of water. Let the straw soak for a few hours and then strain it /squeeze.

I still do the Dawn Dish Soap Soak on my Straw batches. RogerRabit was the one who started that one. I have no idea if it is even useful, but works well with Oysters.

Before I found my good clone of natalensis I had a culture that would do what you are seeing here. The culture would eat the casing like above but it wouldn't stop, it would keep rising like a loaf of bread. It got to the point where the entire top of the substrate was 3" thick plump loaf of spongy white mycelium. Upon de-loafing the substrate the loaf turned blue so I assume it was some sort of active, but who knows. Never got a single fruit from the culture, just loaves.

I kinda wish I would have cloned it. Coulda been the "enigma" strain equivalent of Natalensis.

Nah, it's all it does for me and it pisses me off. It deflated out whatever you wanna call it over the last few days and I really do think fae plays a role along with nutrition and water content. I'm also really bad at this so

Ya this species is very finicky. It took my 5 separate germinations to get anything. I think adjusting the ratio of water:fae:nutrition is a good direction to go.

My best advice would be to be prepared to run parallel experiments with separate cultures( Cultura A, B, C, etc...) then clone whatever you can. I imagine that a dish pin clone would do pretty well with this species but I haven't tried yet. It may be a good idea to set some plates aside to pin.

Also, you don't appear to be bad at this stuff. I bet you are close to a big breakthrough, just keep up the effort.

Thanks man. These trays are basically that. They all came from similar cultures that were t4 or 5 with different spawn ratios. But since they blobbed I figured I'd try to do something else and that's why I broke one cake up into 1 qt of coir which is on the right and so far looking normal, almost cube normal even. Again, I'm just spitballin.

There's plenty of other people with much more experience and expertise working on these things. Someone will get it figured out and we'll just make these the new penis envies or whatever since they're probably just a cube hybrid after all. That explains why the trip is so cube-like but without the dread. The Tamps or whatever someone used to make these probably even out that rough edge of the trip or whatever.

Again, I'm just some stoned idiot that's just trying to connect dots outloud for myself or someone else. I hope something I say clicks something in someone's brain and try figure it out, that way I don't have to keep getting my hopes up just to get clouds. Clouds don't give me mushrooms and I want those things dammit

Has anyone done a bioassay on the cloud loaf?If it's active without some of the toxins and bodyload stuff that go into the fruits, it could be a clean trip like sclerotia.

People report PE blobs to be good times, and your enigma comment is intriguing. We could start purposely selecting for cloud blobs if they're desirable.

So far we have a few phenotypes showing up:

"NSS Cloud loaf" "NSS stringyboi" "NSS tubeater"

Thinking about sticking a microscope slide into a plate of agar or cake to let the rhizomorphs stretch out on it to see if I can see anything fun or interesting underneath the microscope. Anyone know how to use these fuckin things

Take the scalpel and scrap a small piece of mycelium and put it on the slide. Then hit it with a little dye and put a cover slip over the top and put it at 40x.

Here is the Nat Spores under a scope at WF10x and 25X under the 100 lens.

But won't that damage it? I wanted to let it grow to see if I could see anything moving or doing something.

No the coverslip will compress the mycelium strands and once it is on a slide I wouldn't put it back on a plate.
