Bad Jars
    #2718203 - 05/23/04 12:14 PM (19 years, 10 months ago)

Hello everyone. Recently I have had some jars go bad. So I am trying to wait 1-2 days before p. cooking. problem I found, its been 3 days. and looks like I have started some cob web. or some nice colonization without injecting! lol anyway. can I still cook these and hope for the best, that it kills it. or are these jars too far gone? cob web covers 50 percent of surface area. Thx.

Hi monk,
you should throw them away, imho. Even if they are contam-free after pressure cooking them again, there still might be mycotoxins in the substrate, which can be very toxic (aflatoxin e.g.). These toxins can not be destroyed by the heat in your pressure cooker. Shrooms grown on toxic media can be toxic, too.
Maybe I'm too paranoid. It is possible that the cobweb in your jars is not poisonous.

Dam. I just finished cooking them. I wanted to cook them right away after 24 hrs, but let them sit three days till I got to it. It is my fourth batch. The first two were without any contams. Third time I just did 4 jars to get some more going, and all four had green mold, no mycellium. Now this. sheesh. Thx. for reply though.

I thought that with contam problems allowing any possible contam spores to germinate and then to kill them in the cooker. Is this not the thing to do now? Oh well. I read it on here a few places.
