Well looking at your signature it works  so I won't changed

Months ago before I did anything else I bought a newb growkit inoculated it and forgot about it, I just remembered it and it looks clean and ready. Can I just mix this with coir in a shoebox rather than fruit in the bag? I'm guessing I'll get a bigger yield. Or should I case it and fruit in a sgfc?

I'm not actually sure what the substrate in the bag is but it was dark brown like coir. Can I just mix it now as if it's grain?

Thanks

Looks like a all in one bag, is that dry verm on the top? You could put it in a shoebox but also top fruit it, maybe replace that "top layer" if it is that verm layer i think it is.

Yeah it is dry verm and yes an all in one bag so I guess it had something nutrious in it as well as coir. Would removing the top layer and crumbling like grain spawn in a shoebox work? Or do I need to top fruit?

I do still have the plastic tent thing that came with so can just fruit as intended but I have coir and shoeboxes so if that is better I'll do that

I say bust it up and shoebox it... not sure how big that is but I'd bet you could make 2 or 3 shoeboxes with it...

After you guys pull mushrooms

Do you guys let the substrate sit for another run..?
Or do you run another jar of mycelium to colonize then toss in..?

Dunk it(or some other type of rehydrating method) then let it grow again. Some people can get a lot of flushes out of one tub.

My least favorite part of this recreation is cooking/transferring/drying grains. I just spent months attempting no-prep with wheat... but now I realized that the uneven hydration of no-prep made the wheat impossible to sterilize. I have more hope for millet. It almost seems like the water might wick up the grain keeping it more evenly hydrated as the water level drop within the jar/bag while PC'ing.

My least favorite part is the damn cleaning up of coir from the bottoms of the stipes.
I think I'm gonna move on to clear cutting. I've seen someone on here using an electric turkey carver, might have to try that out.

The verm stuck to the stipes always bugged me but coir not so much and neither as much as leaving stumps in the sub. I would rather eat a little bit of coir than waste the bottom of every mushroom.

Hey guys, I’m building my spore collection again and now got around ten varieties to choose from which I’m pretty stoked about and got them all from generous members on this site. I was wondering if it’s okay to keep them at room temp until I get my own place to put them in the fridge. They all seem pretty fresh. I know this has probably been talked about many times, just want to hear people’s opinions. I got them sealed in a ziplock bag in my closet right now. Thanks everyone who sent me spores, love this community!

I never heard of anyone putting spores in the fridge. Just put them in a drawer.

I been seeing this slimy clear shit on the bottoms of my bags 80-100 % colonized . Could this be the reason i had a bunch of tubs turn green ?

I used to put mine in the fridge, supposedly they last longer but I’ve seen reports of people keeping spores in room temp for years, others say put them in the fridge so it’s mixed opinions like usual it seems.

To be honest, that looks perfectly normal. Most of my bags looked like yours and not a single one contaminated. If yours get moldy,  then you could have transferred it with your inoculant.

Anyone know anything about putting a flour/verm recipe into a grain bag and using that as spawn for bulk?

This guy did it in this log, not much interest though:
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26343842

CRAZY difference in colonization times.

edit: it should also make for super fast colonization of coir, since it can break up so finely (if it recovers from it). i’m gonna try it YOLO. it’s basically PF slurry but in a bag so should work, i’d be innocuoating with a master grain jar or LI into it

Hello.... Anyone have any experience with cube myc overtaking green mold in their spawn?

I just spawned a couple jars that colonized to 100% and from the outside looked decent, somewhat bacterial but nothing serious. However, after breaking it up I found a few grains here and there that were green and I took them out. It looked to be the same kind of mold I'd had a problem with in my spawn before but in this case it seems like the myc almost completely overtook it.

I also had two jars recently that were nearing 100% but started showing small amounts of green here and there. Fast forward a couple days and the green is gone and the jars are completely colonized with some slight wetness that I imagine are metabolites from fighting off the mold.

What I'm wondering is, in both cases, is it even worth spawning these kinds of jars?

I haven't even added coir to the spawn I broke up already cause I don't know if it'll just mold out once the coir is introduced or if the myc is healthy enough to fight it off.

I'm sure something like this is case by case but just want to know if anyone's dealt with this personally before.
