A murderer hides the body for the same reasons a dog eats it's own shit.

Have you ever asked a dog why it eats its own shit?

I don't see the correlation, but I'll try.

A dog's shit is foul.  Murder is foul.  So the dog eats his shit to get rid of the foulness of the act, just as a murderer will get rid of the body to get rid of the foulness of his act.

Did I win?

dogs often eat their own vomit, never their kaka.

here in japan, about 90% of murderers show up at the local police station and confess within 24 hours of the deed.

You are mistaken. Our Great Dane has eaten his own shit many, many times - stupid fucking dog. However, every time that I'm aware of this happening it was when he made a mess in the house (and when he was a juvenile). I have never known him to eat shit that was (properly) deposited in the yard - but I don't follow him around to watch when he evacuates his bowels.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

oh well
actually, now i think about it. i had a dog that lived on catshit and cigarette butts. it was great, every morning the ashtrays were licked clean and the kitty litter tray never needed changing.
but seriously, ive lived around dogs all my life and never seen one chow down on its own poops.

One of my dogs has done it, and I also note that it is when he does it inside.

I think it is a shame thing, which may be what the original poster was trying to get at as well.

It goes to show that fear and guilt complexes aren't just human conditions. Society tells us that killing is wrong, and when we kill we fear the consequences and regret our actions. The master shows the dog that shitting in the house is wrong, and when it does this the results is the same.

"It goes to show that fear and guilt complexes aren't just human conditions"

or that dogs are known to always be hungry and can't miss out on a juicy poop steak..

"Society tells us that killing is wrong"
I think I agree with society on this one

I still don't get your point/ and or lesson here though? Of course dogs have a fear/reward complex... that type of system is what has ran 'society' since the cavemen days when big man told little man what to do.

"Society tells us that killing is wrong, and when we kill we fear the consequences and regret our actions"

no, we hide the bodies because spending the rest of your life in prison is not desirable, its not about "fearing consequences" its about desiring freedom. If the consequences were a mere public shaming, many people wouldnt care if they got caught, but since the consequences are severely debilitating, people avoid them. Its completely logical.

and since when do dogs eat shit because of guilt???? I've known dogs that would eat peices of shit they found on the side of the road, dogs are often stupid little wierdos.

I'm not arguing whether it's logical or not, but on that subject of logic, isn't jail time a consequence?

isn't jail time a consequence?

it is but thats not the way its rationalized, its not a mental consequence or a moral consequence, its just a physical one.

Personally, my idiot dog has been known to eat crap occaisonally. Generally not her own, but we have another dog and there are cows and horses around. Anyways, it never seemed to be a shame thing, but rather a matter of percieved tastiness of the shit in question. If my dog does something like poop inside (not that this happens very often, but she is a really old dog at this point) she acts all meek and apolegetic once she realizes we know what she did. To my experience animals don't try and hide the evidence if it's something they've been trained not to do.

I'm no criminologist, but I thought that when murder victims' bodies are hidden it's because the murderer is panicking and trying in a very deliberate and purposeful manner to avoid the consequences of their actions. I guess with organized crime body disposals tend not to be so much a panicking thing as a part of the job.

I dunno, maybe some dogs try to get away with stuff, but I thought the idea was to have your dog genuinely respect you. I could see some cats trying to get away with things, I suppose. And gorillas try to trick people once a manner of communication is established (like, say, sign language). Is the statement exposing how animals are more people than some people would have us think?
