Better tilt those bad boys gypsy.

Where’d you get that rack? It’s pretty nice actually. I PC my tubes in jars but that would be perfect to prop up at an angle and let them cool.

I confess to some impulse buying.

I wrote out this big ass
diatribe about how I liked cling wrap better and on and on.

But by the end of it, which included looking up prices on eBay,
I fricken ordered some! And I love it, all the lab mystique, the feel,
the super grip on the plates!

Same deal with my latest scalpel purchase. I was taunting RoarKell to get
a cool scalpel, which included researching prices, and badda boom, badda bing,
it's in the mail!!!!  Oooh, can't get to get my hands on that sexy scalpel.

Order total: US $8.78 100 #11 blades, #3 scalpel eBay

Inthepit- I haven't convinced myself to try parafilm yet but man I love my scalpels. I'll never buy xacto blades again for anything. I used to use them all the time for various hobbies. Once I found I can get 100 sterile blades for $7-$9 on amazon I was sold. I use them from trimming 3d prints, making stencils, hydroponics, basically any task for any hobby that needs a fine sharp blade. Xacto's are so over priced, I just didn't know there was another option so most of my life.

Roarkell- Pretty sure I got these from amazon as well. 25 sterile tubes and rack for like $15ish IIRC. honestly it probably would have not deformed so much if I hadn't had 2 half pints of WBS sitting on top of it in the PC. I would probably wedge a block of wood or something in it on the next run and reshape it. Still works well enough though.
These aren't actually for slants though. It's MS nutrient mix for in vitro germination/propagation of seeds. Cactus in this case.

I confess I really thought this rack would hold up better on the PC.....

THANKS! I actually almost bought that exact tube rack, it was in the cart and everything... even tho it looks like slight operator error is the culprit for that deformation. Got one of the aluminum ones anyway.

Yeah the only deformation was from the weight of the jars. I really think it would have held up perfectly fine otherwise. I can't really complain though; it came with the tubes. If I had bought it separately, I would be more upset.

Edit: Think I posted this in Gen Cult Discussion thread on accident.
I confess I spent a solid 20 mins or so looking through my scope try to figure out is a strand was myc or bacteria before realizing it was a stray fiber from the swab.

I confess that I'm about 2 microns from losing my shit!!! Pretty sure the asshat behind me poisoned my 1yr old bloodhound/blue heeler mix. I went to make a deposit and come back home to feed my dog and she is nowhere in sight. I find her in the very back by the fence foaming at the mouth, she started freaking out when she saw me and started urinating everywhere like she was frightened. I get her to the vet just as he was leaving, he takes her inside and says he'll call me, 10 minutes later he calls saying he thinks she's been poisoned.  I have searched everywhere and can't find anything,  no plants, mushrooms,  chemicals, nothing.  I have other animals and don't leave anything out  because I also have grandchildren, but I also have 2 really shitty neighbors. One I know wouldn't be this cruel but the fuker behind me is another story, He's one of these chester molester types.
If my dog dies and the vet says it is definitely poison, should I report it to the humane society or maybe the local sheriff? The dude that lives by that fence is the only person who could or would have done it. I don't make accusations lightly and no dog deserves that, especially one as sweet as my Luna. What would you do? Seriously!!!

That's rough, brother. Difficult scenario for sure. Give it time to think over while you have a cool head. Passionate mental states like anger inhibit cognitive ability. Comb over your yard with a fine toothed comb when you have some time to think.

Thats what I would do. Maybe there are people with cameras or maybe a neighbor saw something. Maybe you'll find evidence of something when your mind is more focused. Definitely look closely near where you found your dog, but that just may be where your dog ran to, there may be evidence elsewhere in the yard, in the vomit, or on the fence.

The dogs blood work should help as well.

:whathesaid:

That's solid advice. I got pissed off just reading that post and was already about to bust out the witch hunting fork but he's absolutely right. An angry mind only shows you what you want to see and masks the most probable solutions. For now, just make sure you're dog is okay and when you've calmed down, re-investigate. Its not a bad idea to put up some cameras somewhere.

does your neighbor use slug poison?  I had a dog die from eating some of that although I also believe that a neighbor could have helped it to happen.  Im sorry, I hope your pup recovers

Fuck that man. I’d get the dog tested and find out what it was. Then I’d make absolutely sure there’s no way it was an accident with something on my property.

And then....

Dogs at the vet still,  hopefully she will pull through. I live in a rural area and this guy wouldn't be concerned about slugs. He is the type to poison your dog for barking or shitting in his yard  before he would come talk to you about it.
She's a young hound and will raise hell occasionally when she gets on a scent or sees a local fox or something,  but none of my Animals roam. I have a 400 pound sow that lives out back and spends all her time with the dog, nothing is wrong with the pig, so it's not something in the yard. I thought Amanita at first but the common species I find are not fruiting because of the frost. Someone had to poison her intentionally.

You guys are absolutely awesome. Thank you for reminding me to be sensible because my blood has been boiling over this since 5:30 central time. I feel like it's an intentional poisoning because I've lived in this same place for 20yrs and this has never happened with any of my other dogs or animals.

I'm sure you'll get to the bottom of it eventually. Just got to do it with a cool head. If you can prove that it was your neighbor then there will be recourse. It's certainly a cri.inal offense to poison animals, I've heard that county jail in the US is a rough place.

I confess I would love to grow some wild cubes finally.

I love the quick life cycle. It makes mush cult so much more fun than plants. Plus it got me on shroomery which has been a great part of my life over the last year.

I hate waiting to see if stuff is going to contam. It’s not an issue nearly as much now that I’m using a hood but I still have that little nagging voice in my head after knocking up jars. Most of all I hate cleaning moldy jars :mad2:

Hope your dog bounces back quick man let us know what happens.

man doc sorry to hear that bro. i hope ur pooch is ok. id pay to have all the lab work done thats needed to find out exactly what substance it was then id check with ur neighbors near by and see if any of them happen to have any cameras that might show anything. however i wouldnt tell them u suspect that dickhead of anything just incase they happen to b friendly with the fucker. cuz if they r they may be less inclined to help ya out.

callin the cops or anything without proof is fuckn pointless. also its not wise to deal with any kind of law enforcement when we do what we do. thats the last thing u need. all u can do is wait n see what happens. i would also consider confronting him while recording him and telling him that u have it on tape and wanna give him a chance to explain before you decide to call the cops or not. ppl are stupid like that you may even get him to admit if outta fear of goin to jail. then if by chance he does admit it u got it on tape and have proof to give to the cops. otherwise there is my prefered choice if a good old fashioned ass stompin

either way id b goin out buyin all kinds of cameras

Still waiting to hear from the vet this morning. This is Florida,  we have all kinds of poisonous snakes but it's been so cold that they are hibernating, so I don't think that is it, plus no bite marks are obvious and no swelling anywhere. I'm 99% sure she was intentionally poisoned, I've searched the yard again this morning since the sun has come up and can't find anything,  so I'm hoping the vet can figure it out. I also have hope she will be ok since I have not heard back from the vet yet this morning, she must have done good through the night.

Still 4 prints available to the next 4 to post what you love and hate about mushcult, pm me with your address after posting.

That's rough. I've run into people who seemed to be willing to do that to cats and dogs, but so far nothing happened. I can only hope for the best, that this too will pass.

I hate how shroomcult reveals my flaws over and over again (hubris, laziness, impatience). Here I was, thinking I'm perfectly prepared for LAGM2021 (I might very well be the last contestant to start at this rate), but found that the no-pour containers I've bought for cheap after studying the holy grail thread were unfit for that purpose and I couldn't start with agar work after all. I went through the entire thread to confirm that, found the actual dishes for the TEK and cannot order them now for several reasons, so it will have to wait for two more weeks. Maybe even longer. Another thing I dislike that I keep shoveling money towards tools and supplies and the break-even gets further and further out of sight.

I love it teaching me patience, technique and giving me something else than the computer to spend my free time on. All the information from this forum and the experience of applying that information coming together is invaluable. Fungi in general are the most interesting life form I've managed to cultivate and I like to talk with people about them and adjacent topics. My hope is that despite all the (in hindsight entirely preventable) delays, I will achieve a far better result compared to my previous attempt using UB TEK.

Very sorry to hear about your pooch Doc. I know words don't help much in that situation but she and you will be in my thoughts.

I confess I love the community here. There is a connection I feel with you all on here that I get from no one else. A comradery among strangers formed in our common passions and strengthened by the clandestine nature of it. Learning is one of my truest passions, followed closely by helping others learn and this hobby feeds both of those passions well. The amount of knowledge I gain from here on a wide variety of topics is incredible.

What I hate about mush cult is my enthusiasm for it and my desire and drive to share my knowledge and the benefits of this hobby with others. I want to share this with the world. I want to drag others into the awesome world and help them grow so they can help others grow; but I can't. There is just too much at stake to talk freely about this. I have this exciting, welcoming, and for the most part caring community here and I have to keep it as my little secret. It can be maddening at times.

As for what would I do in your situation, I really cant say. I know what I would feel like doing. I have a blue heeler also and he has saved my life more than once. If I knew someone had poisoned him I think it would take all of my will power and possibly more to keep more from doing them physical harm or burning their house down. At least that is what I would feel like doing. I don't recommend and I don't know I would be able to go through with it until I would be faced with that decision. As far as reporting to the sheriff, that may do more harm than good. Basically, unless you have him on video, clearly identifiable, giving the poison to your dog with the poison clearly visible as poison, they will not be able to take legal action. The law is definitely not on the pet owner's side is these kinds of things. I am so sorry you and Luna are going through this. I wish I had more helpful words or actions or advice for you! I would also like to add this to what I hate about mush cult. I would love to be able to be there, to meet you and luna and help you through this (and anyone on here when they go through hard times) but I know that is not possible for a multitude of reasons.
All I can say is try to avoid purely emotional reactions (and I know that will be hard) and make no move if you have any uncertainty. If you know 100% without a doubt then whatever you do, just be smart about it. If they are willing to kill your dog (or anything animal for that matter) or a trivial matter then they may be capable of much worse. As others have said, mounting cameras along that fence may not be a bad idea. Again, if this was them, there is no reason why they would not do it again when Luna gets better.
:mushroom::heart: to you and Luna. You both of all the positive thoughts/vibes/energy/prayers/etc. that I can muster. Love you brother/sister/teapot. Stay strong
