Old Fomitopsis Pinicola? Please help
    #25474351 - 09/20/18 04:10 AM (5 years, 5 months ago)

Could someone help me with de ID of this polypore? It's been growing in an oak stump close to the coast, in a hot weather summer. I found it alive a coupple of weeks ago but seems to be there for a long time (bit older). It was the size of a closed hand, hard inside and with a dark browned/red flesh on his upper body. You can also see a big but difused white/cream border. I've cloned it in 1:1 grain soaked water agar (you can see a picture of the mycelium below). Hope you can help me with the ID of this mushroom to be sure it's Fomitopsis Pinicola.

Thanks in advance!

does it appear "varnished" on top?
if you scratch the pores, can you see your scratch marks in brown?

Hard to say, photos are really not that representative. If you can find another specimen, do a better shots, from all angles. From what I see it could be Fomitopsis sp, but my confidence is weak

Just say it if you believe it. Use italics to get some extra humiliation when you are proved wrong.

I get my hands slapped every fucking day here.
Best synaptic pathways are created to prevent future humiliation, you learn faster, and after every mistake you understand mushrooms better.

You help op, sometimes with good id, and sometimes you create good discourse and someone else gets it right. Don't just spit bullshit ids, try your best.

I fucking love mushrooms, learning about them, and trying to ID them to help others, otherwise i would've probably given up.
